Someone give me a kick up the backside please

I just got my time online for the YH class im doing on saturday and got all excited because there is only five 6yos (including me!!)

So i then checked their BD records which i probably shouldnt have done - and they are ALL competing at medium level and scoring 70%+.........i think i might not bother going tbh....

I knew the horses would be good, but i didnt think they would be that good

Anyways, totally pointless post, sorry!

I dont know you that well, but from what i have seen you have a fantastic horse and you are a fantastic rider... go show them how good you are!

Go, and enjoy the fact that you've got a young horse with enough quality to compete amongst the best horses of his age. If he can do the work then you've got nothing to lose.
I keep telling myself it's stupid to compete Moon in age classes but then again, why not? I may never be able to afford to buy something with enough quality to win but I can enjoy competing the horse that I've produced against all the pro's horses ad beating at least a few of them
smile.gif

i doubt it, considering hes only done 1 elementary which he did win, but our score was pants - we are no where near medium level yet.........

I know i can only do my best tho
crazy.gif

thank you for that - that was my aim anyways, to just go and enjoy it and have a nose at other horses his age. I shouldnt have looked up their comp records - then i wouldve been non the wiser!

Surely the pressure is off then?
Go there with the determination of riding the best test possible - you might be suprised
wink.gif

You have one of the smartest 6 year olds in the country
smile.gif
so go show him off.

thats very true - i hadnt looked at it like that!

i shall be double dosing the calmer and praying he keeps all four feet on the floor

Oh dear P_G, often a bad move to check on your fellow competitors before the event!
frown.gif

I used to be guilty of the same thing but I try really hard not to now.

Treat it as just another outing. If you and Archie do your best, there is nothing more you can do and if the others are more experienced........well, so what?
And just think, if you actually beat one of them, how good will that feel.

I always try not to think of dressage comps as a competition. More a test of our training and if we happen to do well that is a bonus. As long as I've done the best I can then I'm happy. If everyone is better than me, then so be it and I'll have to work harder if I want to catch them up!
smile.gif

And BBs is quite right.......the pressure is off if you're not expecting to do well.

Don't young horse classes run slightly different though, they are looking at paces, trainability etc not what level they are at at the moment or am I wrong? Give it a bash, you have to start somewhere and I bet he suprises you.

Like when I ride in a big class, Ive always gone in there thinking well what have I got to lose? its the pros that have to watch out
wink.gif
because you may just knock them off the top spot.
Its when Im in a section that I know I should do well in, I end up buggering things up lol

Moral - never look up other horses' competition records!!!

Go out and do your best. It is all experience for Archie. You bought him as a potential GP horse, not to win young horse classes; remember that a lot of horses who are very successful in age classes never progress. You know Archie will!!!

It is great to win, and obviously we all want to BUT there are times when a good "training session" does the world of good for the horse and rider too!!! I think you have got to think about yourself and not others!! It is very tempting to look at others scores before the show but I have learnt not to do that now because you then worry about it!!! No peeking at their scores/results next time until after the show!!!

Read your Pm from me... that will cheer you up and make you giggle!!!

Archie will be absolutely fine, and once you get there you will be worrying what all the fuss was about
smile.gif
Now if I was thinking of taking Disgrace, now that would be another matter

Archie is capable of doing the test, so just go and enjoy him

I looked up every single competitor before i did the Petplan Finals on Bloss and there were loads competing much higher than us, so i resigned to the fact that aslong as she did a nice test i would be happy - which she did, then she went and beat all the posh horses too

YHE6 - basically Young Horse 6yo Elementary test.

Its just got medium trot/medium canter on 20m circle/canter on a long rein on 20m circle/rein back/walk to canter/simple changes on 1/2 10m circles, 5 loop serpentine and thats about it! Oh, and halt at the beginning and end!!

We did 5 year old class this year and it was really nice ,our lovely chap did ok but we were up against pros on fabulous horses. We got nice comments from the judges and they spoke to anyone who wanted to.
We don't have the money to buy an expensive dressage horse and like to jump as well. Dressage can be so snobby, we loved it at the regional at the college, one girl who was placed was going on and on about what she had done and the chap next to me just listened ,then she said 'how did you do' and he said 'I've won and this is his 3 dressage test he events' her face dropped.
I've just read about him in H & H and he was a jockey. Great ,glad he won.
Just go and do your bit ,it is a learning curve, no one will worry about you, they are all too worried about themselves

Go and ENJOY.
Enjoy watching some truely lovely horses, enjoy the fact that you are able to compete, enjoy your lovely horse. We are lucky to be able to do these things just look at the rest of the world and a lot here. We are very fortunate.

There you are you feel better and positive now.

My daughter is saying her event horses dressage was terrible this morning because he was on box rest for 2 weeks and has only been allowed in the school this week and tomorrow is doing the intro champ but at least he is going to be there, last week he had no chance he wouldn't put his foot to the floor. He thrives on hard work and only relaxes if he has loads of work ,especially fast work, but there you go ,he is sound and hundreds try to get to the champs. So she must go ,relax and enjoy.
I will be tense enough for both of us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
