I posted a few months ago regarding livery in Stonehaven as I was due to move into that area - after much searching, my partner and I could not find what we were looking for in Stonehaven so we are now renting a flat in Aberdeen. I have my horse at a livery in the area but I really need to move as things are not working out. I am really struggling to find liveries though - anywhere I like is too expensive i.e. Hogholm, Easter Mains etc - the max I can afford is around £270 a month for DIY with a stable.

Ideally I would like the following;

Indoor and/or outdoor school (outdoor would be fine if it is an all weather surface so I can ride through winter)
Hacking
Smallish/quiet herd
Stable
Option for restricted grazing if required i.e. after box rest etc - seems a lot of places don't offer this?

I am in the City Centre but would be willing to travel (within reason) to the right place.

Can ANYONE reccommend any hidden gems that are not advertised online? Only the big yards seem to be online and I am feeling quite desperate now - help!

It sounds as though you are completely out of luck with big yards. Are you prepared to change your way of keeping your horses? In which case I would put up cards in horse feed stores, farm equipment repairers. A friend of mine did that and found a gem of a place - not all the perks you hope for, but a knowledgeable farm environment with loads of super riding.

I do have a trailer so if a real gem came up with fab hacking, good management etc but had no school, I probably would consider it as I could always hire a school on a weekly basis or something... we are only doing a bit of unaff dressage so its not like we are high level eventers that cannot do without a school :D

There are places like what you are looking for but with all the livery yard closures over the last few months most are full with waiting lists!!

I am at New Milltimber Farm, not far from city centre and on the bus route too, with DIY stabling, indoor, outdoor, wash bay, good grazing with small single sex herds, an injury paddock and ok (but not great) hacking, for £50 a week incl haylage. However there is a waiting list.

Could be worth approaching a yard like that to go on a waiting list and get some grazing for the summer in the meantime??
