I have two horses which are both living in 24/7 due to yard not having winter turnout. I work full time and they are on DIY. I am really struggling to muster the energy to muck out two twice a day and ride every day. As it is i dont get home until around 8:30 pm every night...not sure how long i can do this for!

Has anyone got any time saving tips that may help?

Time saving tips, well I can only think of finding a different yard with turn out. This must be very hard for you, no wonder you are worn out.

I have two at differnent yards, one is on box rest at the moment, i have found it abit easier though that she has rubber under her straw so in the morning i much out and leave the bed up and in the evenings sweep out and lay the bed, unfortunatly i can't ride at the moment so that will make me get home later when i eventually can

Sounds like your doing well.
Ive only got the one and I dont get home till about 8-8.30 in the evening.
Im constantly frazzled!!

Do you have services at your yard? Coz maybe you could have your horses done for you once a week or some thing, so you at least get a night off!

I am moving yards soon which has some turn out over winter but not every day! So sick of them being in...as you say its no wonder i am knackered!!

Thanks for the tip, i unfortunately dont have rubber matting on my stables but new yard does so will do that in the day time definitely!

I do have services available but i would a) rather do them myself and b) can only afford to have the two if i do them myself! Guess il just have to get used to this feeling!

Could you get away with just skipping out during the week and doing a full muckout at weekends? I guess if they're both in all day it's difficult, but if you're lucky enough to have "clean" horses, it does save some time. Also making up feeds for the week and putting them in carrier bags will save a few minutes each day.

I'm cream crackered just having one horse though!!

Lol i constantly feel like that!!

I have 4 to muck out and put to bed each evening and my 2 to ride! Only thing keeps me going is that i get Saturday 'off' and Wednesday evenings from tonight and the fact that they hopefully all go back out 24/7 in 2 weeks time!!

Oh my god i feel like a right moany cow, you have four!!! I am struggling with two!

I am looking into getting a sharer for one of mine as it is too much and the youngster is missing out on lots of work....he is so happy right now!!

Actually i do have to be grateful as they are both VERY clean!

and all i do in the week is take out the poo then take out wet once a week on a sunday morning..normally with a hangover! Lovely!

Im hoping the new yard will be better with the rubber matting although knowing me they will still have six foot deep beds! Slight OCD when it comes to my beds!

Why not muck out in the morning put the majority of the beds up round the sides and leave a little bit of straw down then in the evening sweep it all out and put beds down. I know how you feel, I have 6 to exercise, 2 before work and 4 after work, and 12 stables to muck out - ARRAAGGHHH

This prob isn't much help, but I read somewhere that it can be an idea to change your mental attitude. If you think, 'I've GOT to...' it makes it seem more of a chore than if you think, 'I WANT to...'

After all, you DO want to have horses, or you'd sell them & take up embroidery???
