Just booked Henry into kennels for a whole week - I'm going away with work, then away for the weekend as soon as I get back. I feel really guilty to leave him for so long, but my parents can't have him as they're having some work done on the house:( Meh:(

It will, normally my parents or a friend would have him, but no can do this time, and the dog sitter I was recommended is booked:( There's a small chance my parents might be able to have him, but I suspect they won't be able to, unfortunately.

What a shame you are so far away I would have had him for you :( I'm sure he wont really mind and it will all be swiftly forgotten on your return x

Kennels arent cheap are they! I would feel exactly the same and truely awful so you arent alone, but I think we have to remember these feelings are somewhat irrational and in all likelihood all will be absolutely fine.

It is really, but thank you:)

I just need all fingers and paws crossed that the folks can take him after all, would save me a packet, especially as his vacs are due and I was kind of going to push back to after next payday...:o

What sort of work is being done that means they cant have him? Would be a big relief for you if he could after all

They're having a log burner installed, so there will be blokes bashing holes in walls, the front door will be opening and closing with people tramping in and out, and mum is worried that he would get hugely stressed and/or end up escaping and being run over if the workmen left the door open, so they're not willing to have him if its going in that week (they don't know yet which week it will be, only that it will be at some pouint during that month). I think they're probably right to be fair, it's just a bit of a bugger.

HMM, couldnt they cage him in another room when work is going on? He'd be happier than in kennels I'm sure (and so would your bank balance!)
Or ultimate test of the new manshape...can he have hen for the week?!

Not sure about that V, I would like both Hen and the man back in one piece at the end of the week:D

I'll talk to my parents again, but I don't want them to feel like they're being guilt-tripped into having him.

I'm not so sure, Henry tends to whine a lot at the man's place, and while he's starting to settle down now it is driving the man (and me!) wappy... I'm not sure they would both survive a whole week at the moment, although the man did heroically dog-sit on Saturday morning with no noticeable ill effects for either party:D

I felt very guilty about leaving my dog in kennels earlier this year but in actual fact the little traitor had a great time. He settled in really well and was spoilt rotten by the kennels staff.
It also did him good as he is a little mummy's boy and was very wary of other people but after a week of being looked after and walked by strangers he was so much better.

A whole week at the mans place doing the male bonding thing and he will prob never ever whine again....and you wont have to listen to the whining to get to that point :D Win win! ;) :D

Nothing to add except Vizzys suggestion is very good about a cage, just wanted to say dont feel guilty if he does have to go in kennels, its only for a short time and he will soon forget it.

Hope the family do take him and save you some money.
