My mare has hardly been ridden for the last 12 months due to me not having time and the ground being wet.
So I bought her back into work the middle of may and she was very stiff, but with the time off I thought it was that and have kept working her to get her more supple.
The stiffness got worse about 7 days ago but I had a lesson booked last Saturday so got the instructor to have a good look and she also said she's really stiff behind, but sort of looks lame. But couldn't really work out what leg because the lameness changed legs when I changed the rein.
Vet came out today because she came up with windgalls on all four fetlocks.
Turns out she is extremely sore in all four legs and all down her back.
I feel so guilty that I kept riding her through it to make her supple because I kept getting told she's just stiff the work will help, when she was in so much pain.
She's on danilon for the next two weeks so she should be feeling a lot better now that she's had something for the pain.
The vet thinks shes done it charging around the field with her field mate because they are lunatics always playing.
Hopefully some time off work and a couple of weeks of pain killers and she'll be back to normal!
