A few years ago i was given Alfie a JRT type , his owners were emagrating, his owners were farmers and he had been encouraged to hunt bunnies, and had no recall, ( except to the car horn) sooooooooooooooooo............
Since i have had him i have had to keep him on a flexi lead on walks, except in the horse field where he can run around off the lead. I have worried that he is'nt having anough excercise, but did'nt want to have to dig him out of a rabbit hole  I have tried recall training with treats but bunny wins over dog treats every time
Any hoo, i decided to try taking a tennis ball and flinger with us when we went on the common, to see if it would take his attention away from other things, and it seems to have worked, if he is'nt chasing the ball, he is carrying it, and he seems to have all his atention on it all the time, and all the commands he learned on the flexi seem still to be working off it :cool:I have been doing this all week, no misdermeeners (sp) as yet :):)

Sorry for the self indulgent post, but just wanted to share:D

Cheers! yes long may it last ( touches wood), He has a lot of energy, so he needs to be able to run, hav'nt been able to let him in field near home recently as it has been laid up for hay, and because of the long grass i worry about adders.

Oooh I missed this last night - WELL DONE! :D

Ball-flinger-thingy always worked a treat with our spaniel! When we wanted to properly tire her out, Ultimate Flingball came into play - there's a nice wide, slow-moving bit of river near us, I'd stand on one side and fling the ball to the other side - she'd splash her way over, get the ball and splash her way back, great fun! :D

My two don't pay any attention to balls when they're out and about. See lots of people use those flingers though and they really do wear the dogs out.

Lady I know broke her leg and was on crutches for a while and it was a life saver for her as her dog got plenty of running around while she stood next to the car! :D

The ultimate test will be after the summer and the tourist have left, and we can go down to the beach, if i can divert his attention away from those damn sea chickens :D we will definatly have a break through :)
