I have never put his rugs on before October, yes it the first week , but, I thought I would have another week.

I have sent his rugs aways to be washed and they are not back yet, I have worked so had to get most of his weight back on, and even though his ears felt warm this morning I feel like he does need his LW on, last year he did not really get a winter coat.

Am I being cruel, I dont want to namby pamby an already spoilt TB, but he is getting older and I do worry.

Sorry for the rant, I suppose just want to hear that all will be ok, even though I know deep down I need to get another rug until his come back.

What do you think? It is not cold IMHO but there is a little chill and tonight is over cast

My boy is abit of a wimp, part TB and very thin coat, but still not put rug on yet. Having only just stopped fly rugging him, he seems to be really enjoying the freedom of being naked, as it were. His ears are warm in the mornings, so I am sure he is fine.Mine will look very tucked up if the cold gets him, so just keep an eye on yours incase he does as well. It's going to get alot colder than this, so I am sure as long as he moves around, he will be fine, and imagine yours will too.

My arab has only just got her rug on overnight, but only because I'm wimpy and can't bear to think of her out in the cold when I'm freezing sitting at home with the heater on and my duvet around me

Hi Gails,

I hate this time of year for trying to decide what rugs to put on!

Its fine with my young warmblood - she is always cold so pretty much always has a rug on at night (except the odd night in summer!) and is now rugged in the day but she really is the ultimate wimp!

I find it really tricky now with my 28yr old retired gelding, when he was younger and ridden he really didnt need much at all in terms of rugs - unless we were in proper winter - but now he is older I spend half my life fretting about is he warm enough, too warm etc etc and the weather seems to change every half hour which only adds to my whittling!

I am sure your horse will be fine, its just us owners that run ourselves ragged with worry!
