im more of a lurker on here but here we go...im so upset at the minute and dont know what to do for the best. I have 3horses a 24yr old, 4yr old and a 10yr old I was privatley renting a yard to myself, but had to move to a cheap livery yard last week and I hate it... they are on doing it up and will be building an arena next year but it is a tip at the minute (it will always be a tip) I have to stay there this winter as i've already bought my haylage/straw and have it stored at this yard. The hacking is rubbish.
I cannot afford to move to a nicer yard with 3 horses so im thinking about selling my 10yr old, only thing is I think i'll regret it. I have no idea what id get for her, Shes a 15.2hh ISH showjumper by ricardo z, has some winnings but I do rc with her, she is very flighty, has been known to rear when excited, has to be led into the ring. cant hack out in company etc etc, her stable name is crazy daisy! Id want around 3.5k for her because she is a fantastic mare always wins/placed. but I know I wouldnt get anywhere near that for her especially in this market. I really dont know what to do :(
I think aswell that because i like to keep myself to myself and have never really been on a big yard before im feeling so down :( there is nobody on my wave length, dont mean to sound like a snob but theyr all chavs!
should I sell my mare? or am i over reacting?

ohh try not to be too down about things :( could you afford to move if you had less horses? if so how about loaning? or how about sharing?
how about getting a few of you together and tidying the yard up?

however bad yard politics are surely its not worth selling your horse over? try going up at quiet times too

hope things improve soon xx

Why would selling your mare solve your problems? If you are having to stay there anyway, then surely parting with her and regretting it would only make you feel more down?

If selling her meant you could move to somewhere nicer then that would be different, but again you may regret it.

However, I am wondering if all your problems are purely financial? Are you able to afford to keep three horses through the winter?

At the minute i pay £150 a month for all 3 horses however i have bought all my haylage for this year, nice livery yard nearby is £40 a week per horse, everything included so I will only be able to afford livery for 2 horses there, the old mare is with me forever as is the 4yr old as he is her son. I wont sell the 10yr old mare straight away as I dont need to, but seriously thinking about it. Iv only been at yard a week and dont want to go up there I hate it that much :( there is nowhere to ride at all

is there not another livery yard nearby that you could look at? or find somewhere cheap to rent over winter?, often places with grazing and stables but no other facilities are reasonable, and you could try to find somewhere with good hacking nearby? or maybe somewhere in hacking distance that you could rent the manege? then you could always reevaluate in the spring which would likely be an easier time to sell your horse if you are forced. good luck getting it sorted hope things perk up soon :)

Ps. Several people on here have mentioned good deals with keeping horses at farmer's places who they approached. Just because they havent outwardly advertised doesnt necessarily mean they wouldn't be interested so perhaps if you see somewhere you think may be suitable you could cross your fingers and put a note in the letter box? :)
