Would be able to clamber on them after 4 weeks off without lunging first, without explosions?!

I had my plaster off today, so was straight down the yard to ride. Hopped on madam (who when I originally rang up about her, her previous owner said "isnt the type you would want to give too many days off!") without any silliness, bucks, etc etc, and worked softly in an outline for 15mins no problems at all! I am SO pleased with her!

Genuinely how many people could get on a 7/8th TB 4yr old like that?!

Sorry, very self indulgent, just SOOO pleased with her! No doubt she will buck me off tomorrow...

He is still the same now,he can have 3 months off over the worst weather in winter(not happening this yr,want him fit for jumping in spring
smile.gif
)i can tack him up and go for a poddle round the village and he is just the same as he always is

love him,he is by far the best natured horse i have ever known and i've known some good ones

Haha, yeah yeah Colleen and CaveCanem, spoil my fun
wink.gif
She is a sharp girly though, had the girl who backed her off 3 times in quick succession for silly reasons

diggerbez *whistles quietly*.... hmmmm.... well it did get mentioned, and he did say it wouldnt be a problem.... but I think he meant in another few weeks
wink.gif
He said to take it easy, so I am! Riding is taking the weight off it a bit
tongue.gif
And you;re alright with the swapping thanks

my tb was always fine to get on after a long break and she is sharp as hell!
i backed her in the october of her 3yro year and got back on her in march the next year with no lunging or prep and she was an angel.

must be that sensible tb blood!!

Must have been good to be back onboard :-) Lukey is proving, so far, to be the same regardless of how often you ride him...but being a newfie the only thing he believes is worthy of energy expenditure is eating

I can see you and raise you! I climbed straight on my 4yo pure TB after 4 weeks off - the last 3 of which he was stuck in his stable due to weather, (effectively box rested)!

He didn't bat an eyelid
grin.gif

But then he's now had 16 months off due to injury and I can still (aged 5/6) put him away for 6 months and climb back on and it's as if the time off hasn't happened - we pick up right where we left off. I am VERY lucky
grin.gif

As are you!

Yes, I got on Mr M after 5 months off, straight from the field, quick groom, bridle on and jumped on and rode him round bareback, however I was told that I was completely mad but then you have to be ride him anyway!
crazy.gif

Oh well done. Sounds like your having loads of fun
grin.gif

Although on the smug stakes I feel pretty pleased with my mare - who when sent to be backed was tacked, backed and hacked out on the same day
grin.gif
And she's been a dream ever since.

The 4 year old, no problem at all, hasn't put a foot wrong since I backed her
smile.gif

The 11 year old ... ppfffff ... you're kidding, I dread him having so much as a day off
crazy.gif
he has legs like springs and can boing in 6 directions at once

Yes with both at 4, however, they are clydesdale and gypsy cob which are known to be easy going. Farra is now 5 and had 8 weeks off with an abcess and just got straight back on and off for a hack. She is a lovely steady big girl.

The same with my TBs and my WB. With Fleur the WB, if she were going to have a paddy it made no difference whether lunged first or not so tended to hop on and hope

The only time I have lunged Stinky was last winter before getting on was when newly clipped and it was cold. He gave a couple of little bucks but I have since found that he only does this on the lunge and not when you are onboad so I now hop on and go.

Some of us are very lucky with our babies.

Mine hasn't been ridden this week at all due to weather/time constraints and she'll be just a teensy bit fresh tomorrow, oh, and she's 20!

She had 6 weeks off this time last year with bad mud fever and was a loony toon when I first rode her, though to be fair I did take her to the gallops, which was probably a bad idea! She'll be fine tomorrow, just a little bit more lively.
