ive got a awful feeling of guilt today, as i havent ridden in a week! the weather has been awful.
my boy is turned out all day and then brought in a night, he does not seem bothered but i feel awful!
we are currently having a school built, which is not ready yet, and the other school we use now is just mud, and now its frozen its rutted and too dangerous!
i dont have transport to get him to a hired school, and the off road hacking is so rutty i think ide end up with a lame horse!
i know many people are in this situation but i cant help feeling guilty, and im so down about it, and just feel really bad for him!
how do all the people who cant ride keep their spirits up?
ive started doing lots of grooming with him, and even started clicker training to keep him occupied and to get him to remember i do exsist!

If he's turned out all day I'm sure he doesn't care in the slightest.

Just chill out, relax and start planning stuff for the New Year. I don't think it does them any harm at all to have a bit of a break and far safer than trying to ride and having an accident

I hate not riding but you've just got to deal with it. If I rode down here I'd probably end up with a pony with a broken leg - that makes it easier!

I have nothing to ride but I do get sense of satisfaction from spending lots of time grooming and trimming my mare up generally faffing about with her talking away to her as if she's going to answer back ...LOL

I'm kinda used to not riding now I think.

your so right! i could utilise my time elsewhere, and i suppose it is a comfort he is out all day scoffing his hay. im on the lookout for a lorry, and planning my 2010 activities so i suppose ive got plenty to keep occupied, oh and my 2 kids keep me pretty busy too! just wish i could wave a wand and summer was here!!! lol

I am in the exact same position, I am unable to ride because of the weather and I am really hating it. My horse really doesn't seem to care in the slightest but I feel so lazy not riding now.

Dont feel guilty. I havent ride for a week and a half because we are still knee deep in snow, before the snow we were just hacking at the weekendss because everywhere is a bog, and no dount will go back to that because it will be even worse when the snow melts. Grr roll on spring.

I haven't ridden for a month due to weather, OH working weekends etc. I'm not stressing about it as Bob is out all day (apart from Monday and he came in about an hour ago today). I'd rather he was just mooching about than try schooling/riding on hard/icy ground.

I don't think he's complaining about it!!!

At least you have turnout, we can't even get out of the stable

Agree with this. I can walk up and down the yard but that's it. Can't get to the fields so she's been in for 5 days now and no riding for almost 2 weeks. I feel awful too cos she's getting on a bit and her back legs get stiff so she should be ridden twice a week minimum for 20 mins to stop them stiffening up (vets orders) but haven't been able to do any. I'm going to spend some time with her at the weekend too, grooming and such, although she prefers to be left alone really!

She hates being in but I think she appreciates it at the minute because when I walk her out she doesn't refuse to go back into her stable, which she does if she's had enough and wants to go out.

Hold out as best you can, it'll be over soon enough (shortest day yesterday, heading towards spring now

We do - for now!!! Snow hasn't stopped all day and he's been a bit excitable because of it. I have been putting his bridle on to turn him out!

He only had 3 hours out this morning. Thought I'd better get him in while I had the chance. He's got more hay than you can shake a net up and his neighbour is back in as well.

No turnout is pants.

Our school is frozen and roads too slippery to hack out so I haven't ridden for ages either. I think my horse is quite enjoying his winter break.
It is frustrating as I've just finished work for the holidays and have time to ride for once. However, there's no point in stressing as there is nothing anyone can do about it.
