Had the afternoon off today - farrier was coming so thought I could get a quick ride in on my mare (who has behaved herself all week).

It started when bringing mare and foal in - had other horses on both sides (in fields) and mare let rip with legs everywhere so I was forced to let go. Fortunately someone caught them for me just inside the yard!
Anyway, then got my other mare in, tacked up and hopped on. It was a bit windy but I thought nothing of it. Cue bucky spinny, spooky crazy mare.... She had me off after about ten mins. Someone fortunately caught her...
So I figured I'd lunge her & then get back on. She was a total nutter on the lunge, squealing & bucking & generally being a prat. Somehow (i don't actually know how) she got away from me, jumped clean out of the arena, flew round the track and jumped into the geldings field! Cue lots of squealing, kicking and tail lifting. (& me praying for no injuries!) So _ I retreived her, lunged her again and then prepared to hop on, just as my mate came round and said the farrier was ready!

so got on anyway and walkd back to yard. (somewhat red faced as farrier and two apprentices had witnessed most of this)
After she had new shoes on I popped her into the jumping field as it was too early to bring in. Later I go to turn mare and foal out and hear thundering hoofbeats - the silly sod had jumped out of the paddock and was right behind us!
Just don't know what got into her!

I need a gin.

Oh - and the feeling useless bit is because it always seems one step forwards and two back with this mare......

Given that I can't seem to hold on to any of my lot I wonder if I should have horses at all!

Don't feel bad, we all have bad days and have the rope burns to prove it

Reading your post I was actually impressed with your mare's ability

Is that her jumping the black and white poles in your sig?

What a nightmare (or perhaps a 'mare' :-)).
Sounds like a truly horrible day. I've had some of those too. I hope it's better when you go there next.

Ah thanks guys - feel better already

akelly - no that's not my mare, he's my old gelding. She's the second one in my siggy. But yes, her jumping ability is great - just can't seem to harmness it at the mo!

She's stunning! They say all the supermodels and are high maintenance!

Could just be a bad day. The weather is very poo and she is probably fed up with that too and wanted to express this in a rather silly way!

Tomorrow is another day.

Gin is a good short term solution!!

I know how you feel - the windy gales over the past two days have made riding a nightmare.
I think you did extremely well to persevere with her!

I hacked my in-foal mare round the racecourse yesterday and she insisted on snorting and passaging all the way around.
Then rode my new horse out for the first time and was dreading him broncing and pissing off!

Not surprised! It would be like an overweight builder having a supermodel fall in his lap

He was probably devestated when she left! He'll be calling her now every time you walk her past LOL! ;grin:

Oh Arwen, don't feel bad. We all go through crappy days and sometimes that we are going backwards but I'm sure things will pick up. All us ladies are entitled to at least a few off days a month! Hopefully your mare will settle down very soon
