Had the afternoon off today - farrier was coming so thought I could get a quick ride in on my mare (who has behaved herself all week).
It started when bringing mare and foal in - had other horses on both sides (in fields) and mare let rip with legs everywhere so I was forced to let go. Fortunately someone caught them for me just inside the yard!
Anyway, then got my other mare in, tacked up and hopped on. It was a bit windy but I thought nothing of it. Cue bucky spinny, spooky crazy mare.... She had me off after about ten mins. Someone fortunately caught her...
So I figured I'd lunge her & then get back on. She was a total nutter on the lunge, squealing & bucking & generally being a prat. Somehow (i don't actually know how) she got away from me, jumped clean out of the arena, flew round the track and jumped into the geldings field! Cue lots of squealing, kicking and tail lifting. (& me praying for no injuries!) So _ I retreived her, lunged her again and then prepared to hop on, just as my mate came round and said the farrier was ready!
so got on anyway and walkd back to yard. (somewhat red faced as farrier and two apprentices had witnessed most of this)
After she had new shoes on I popped her into the jumping field as it was too early to bring in. Later I go to turn mare and foal out and hear thundering hoofbeats - the silly sod had jumped out of the paddock and was right behind us!
Just don't know what got into her!
I need a gin.
Oh - and the feeling useless bit is because it always seems one step forwards and two back with this mare......
Given that I can't seem to hold on to any of my lot I wonder if I should have horses at all!
