I have not long been posting on this forum and have just had my second warning! The first for a signature that is not allowed and one today warning me against posting nasty things! I have NOT said anything nasty to anyone - and really feel its not worth the hassle!!

Sorry you feel this way, we are a welcoming bunch really! :D

I've been told off for the sig too but the "nasty comments" are probibily from someone who pushed the button to report you

Don't be put off, you just have to avoid the idiots :D

Oh please don't feel like that, generally this is a friendly forum but I think because it is so big and has a lot of members it can take a while to get used to and for people to recognise who you are.
FDC

Don't worry, it can take a bit of time to suss what you can and can't do, you do have to be a bit tolerant sometimes but generally everyone is nice and there is often some very good advice dished out. The nature of any forum means everyone has an opinion, ignore those you don't agree with as sometimes it is not worth getting into a slanging match.

Should we set up a 'dare you to push the button' club?
Or 'constructive criticism is good for your horse's health' club.
There are a lot of sensitive souls out there ;)
Welcome and looking forward to hearing more from you!

got to say I have nothing put thanks to alot of the people on this forum they are really nice. You soon work out who the regulars are and these are the ones that tend to give the best advice. Unfortuantly there are a few on here that like to spoil peoples fun and 'push the button' ask any of the regulars they have experienced the 'push the button' person. Chin up and just ignore the spoil sporters

I know how you feel! I'm regretting getting involved in a current thread, but the more sane people are now coming out to make me feel better about it :( got quite upset about it, and feel stupid for letting it get to me now.
Such a thing as this forum with so many varying opinions will always rub people up the wrong way, I always get offended when I don't get many replies on my reports, but then I am very sensitive! lol, not the best combination. Just keep posting and dont let it get to you, or try not to!

I think you will find it is posts like that which upset people. Having different opinions is fine but there are ways of writing which wont alienate people or cause them to become defensive. You are implying that people who are disagree with you are insane! ;)

Much as it doesn't bother me enough to ever report something, you do agree to the t&c's when you sign up, these include the size of the sig... Not worth getting in a flap about but neither do I think it's an infractable offence :D

If people just put a bit of thought into what they write before they hit the 'submit reply' button I think there would be far less upset on here (although OP I have certainly never read anything remotely unpleasant you have posted).

:)

See I did it again! :( I did to edit before I post... These experiences are going to turn me into a lurker! lol

Welcome!!! If it makes you feel any better I had a warning yesterday too!! So someone was obviously having a bad day as I hadnt wrote anything that was wrong either.... or may be I did. I dont know??? I was talking about how the mud was back, except I used the letter b and 5* to make another word in front of the word mud. Now I didnt swear, I wouldnt do that but a b and 5 * was aparently unacceptable language!! lol So I had an official warning and my hand slapped!

The other thing to remember is that you can get some amazing advice on here but at the end of the day you dont know who is at the end of the computer giving you their opinions. Many on here are really experienced etc but you still get a few ....... well maybe not so experienced, just who like to think they are. So take it as it is, a bit of a laugh with some quite funny topics and occasionally a little gem of info or knowledge.

Yesterday for instance I found out that lots and lots of people leave their horses turnout rugs on in the stable overnight and gave their reasons for doing so. I have done this for a few years now but wouldnt tell anyone because quite frankly maybe I was just being a little bit lazy and trying to save myself time in the morning. now I can reel off a whole list of reasons for me to do it!!!! lol

I'd be fascinated to know what you said! I've yet to manage to annoy someone enough to be reported :( must try harder...

Hmmm, i understand it may sometimes feel a bit unfriendly, but it is infact a very knowledgable forum!

I have had someone who pmed me to say my siggy is too big!! Lol, it's always been the same size, and i didn't change it anyway!

It's probably not the friendliest horse forum on the net, but that's because of the huge size of it. It certainly can't be beaten for knowledge and advice. Just keep posting and get yourself recognised by other posters (NOT by TFC lol) and you will soon fit in.

I'm fairly new to the forums (and am worried I'm getting addicted !) but have been very careful to avoid saying anything negative about others, and wording posts in the right way. Email/type is a terrible form of communication and can lead to lots of misunderstandings and giving offence when you don't intend to. Emoticons can only go so far :D

I try and check my content to make sure I've not inadvertently said something critical, and from reading this thread, apparently I have to ensure the conservatise use of * so as to avoid offence hehe. And I am not at all techy so have no clue how to do a signature, phew!

But I'd say stick with it, email as you would want to be emailed (?), be helpful/constructive and ignore those who may offend as they may well not intend to or are writing in the heat of the moment, or are insane and should be ignored anyway :)

I got 'done' for my sig too. It was lovely. Now its too small and has lost its impact. I also had a quote underneath.........
'Its not the winning that counts..........its the GLOATING:D'
Which I think is funny, but not everyone on here has a sense of humour.
So I removed it because I hate being in trouble.

Keep posting.
People who use ***** words show their character. I like that.

OP please don't be too discouraged!!!

Its just about getting the hang of how things work on this forum. I inadvertently "advertised" on one of my first forays here - and some nice friendly person pushed the button.

I think this is one of the best horsey forums there is if you're looking for advice on something; but I think its very easy to take something that is said a bit personally.

Also ...... you have to be aware that IF you do post something maybe a bit derogatory or unkind about for example someone at your yard, or a particiular situation, then you might just run into that person at some point in the flesh!!! So be careful what, and about whom, you post. Best not to post too much details really coz IME things you post on here can and do come back and bite you on the bUm.

But nothing wrong in just lurking a bit till you get the hang of it.

BUT IMO there needs to be more guidance given to new members; this is something which is frequently expressed.

Definitely agree with this!

Regarding sigs, if you right click on your signature and go to 'Inspect Element' you will see on the RHS it says 'Metrics' Click on here and it will tell you the size of your sig - max on here is 700x200. If it is too big you can resize it in Photobucket (if you use Photobucket to upload your pics). Really not difficult! :)

aww, don't feel to bad about it, apparently everyone thinks I'm a man

Don't worry about it Packwood. It's an internet forum, not real life. Be a shame if you stayed away because of some initial misunderstandings.
