As many of you know, I am a nervous rider. I NEVER thought I would ever canter again outside of the school. Then 2 years ago I got my little mare and hoped she would restore my confidence. In 2 years I have achieved cantering behind another Horse (on a narrow track so I could use the Horse infront to stop :o) then moved on to behind another Horse in a slightly open field. Then on to being in front in an open field :)

I never thought I would be able to go it alone though as shes usually on her toes alone. The most I have done is trot up hill in an open field. Yesterday I asked my YO if it would be ok to ride in the field. She said yes so I got on with the plan of just walking and trotting. She was behaving so well and being a bit lazy so thought why not?! called my friend over to get the evidence on video! please please excuse my god awful position (I am cringing at my heels!) but I was not thinking *toes in, heels down* I was more thinking *crap, s**t,******;)* luckily the hot weather turned her into a beach donkey so it was the right time for me to try a canter.

And some stills

I know to most of you this will seem like a really small achievement. But for me its huge, its something I never thought I would do.

Glad things are going well, last update I saw you were in the middle of yard issues! Things have clearly improved dramatically! :D

This is brilliant to hear confidence issues is easily lost but ever so hard to regain you must be so proud of you and Ruby
Well done who cares what you look like just enjoy every moment here's to many more happy days for you both
:D

Thank you for your lovely comments :D

JFTD, yes moved back to my first yard and she settled almost instantly. Shes much happier back with her herd. Its a bit further away, not as much hacking and a bit more pricey but its worth it if shes happy.

I am wanting to try XC next, I don't want to go to a comp as I wouldn't like to feel I have to canter everywhere. So I may suggest to my friend we hire a XC course so we can go at our own pace. Ruby loves to jump so I'm sure she will be great at it (me not so much:rolleyes::o)

Brilliant, well done, confidence is so easily lost and it's a great feeling when you achieve that small step in gaining some back.

Small steps and again a big well done, we have all been there

Thanks :)

It has been very hard dealing with my confidence. Half of me is envious of the people that have the guts to go for a canter in a field and not have a care in the world. I also feel guilty that my Horse doesn't really do much, Sometimes I feel that I hold us back. But then the other half thinks as long as shes cared for she probably doesn't really care :p and stop being silly and enjoy what I am doing and I will get there in my own time.

I just wish I could re wind time and never have gotten on that Horse :( (I guess anyone else who has had a serious accident thinks the same though)

Congratulations, you look fantastic together.
If you ever have another wobble in confidence, you can look at this and see how well you have done.
Kx
