Feeling very down after the way I was treated yesterday.

I'll try and keep this as short as I can, I just need to rant I suppose.

I work at a riding school at weekends and keep my horse there on working livery, I'm in the process of moving my horse to a private livery yard 5 mins down the road as he is 19 now and I would like him all to myself now. He is on trial at this livery yard, he goes down to stay overnight and I bring him up to work during the day until he can move to the livery yard permenently (he's getting to know the other horses and vice versa). Anyway, I noticed one of his front hooves was all cracked up around the clenches and looked like if he lost the shoe it was going to take alot of his hoof with it, so got my farrier to have a look, he took shoe off, said bacteria had got into nail holes and "blown" his hoof, he said we narrowly avoided disaster and that he would be a bit sore on it for a couple of days, which he was. Told the weekend manager that I would not be bringing him up to work as he was a bit lame. Well her and another member of staff didn't believe me! Manager came down to livery yard to check him out, and said he was fine and that it was all a lie as I didnt want him to come up and work.

Why would I lie about something like that? Apparantly I am going to be spoken to tomorrow about it all by the yard manager, no one (apart from 2 people) believe me when I said my horse was lame and couldn't come up to work. It's very suspicious (sp) apparantly. I thought these guys where my friends and I don't know why they are being so nasty. I'm so down and am dreading tomorrow :-(
 
Is your horse on livery for free in return for you and he working to pay for him being there?

These people sound like ********s (excuse my language). I would get the farrier to ring them and tell them what he told you, and also, if they feel you have "short changed" them, offer to pay them a weeks livery and then tell them to stick it.

Dont let them get you down - since I started riding again, I have seen some serious yard politics. Its ridiculous.
 
Look Love he's your horse not theirs and tell them, If he's not fit to work, he's not fit to work and ask them to ring your farrier and get him out of there as soon as poss. Have you a written contract about the hours he works and the time off he has, sounds like they have over used him, as I take it he's very quiet. So if I was you I'd go in guns blazing.
 
i sort of know how you feel, my 1st horse was kept on working livery, then I moved him off completely (best thing I ever did, for him and me).
My relationship with the riding school broke down from the day I told them that he was leaving. Initially I was upset at their attitude but once moved met new friends and was so much better for us both.
 
How very rude of them to question your judgement ( & your farriers ) I'd be fuming. You are only looking out for your horses welfare. Totally agree with the previous posts - give them the livery & tell them where to go !
 
I pay for his livery so it's not like they can say I've been taking the p**s. We all used to get on so well, but the yard has got very bitchy and cliquey (sp again!) over the last few months. I've gone from wanting to spend all my time there and doing as much as I can, even when I'm not working, to not wanting to go there at all. I don't know whats happened :(
 
I agree with everyone at the end of the day he is your horse and what you say goes, so please do not worry about tomorrow they have no right to act in that way so please do not put up with any further C**P from them good luck with it
 
How rude of them! Tell them to stuff it, he's your horse you're only doing what's best for him, surely they should be happy you are taking good care of him not getting annoyed at you because he is a bit sore!

I hope you manage to sort it and move him to the new yard as soon as you can, those people sound horrible - not worth getting upset over imo. Hope you sort it :)
 
Ditto the others, get your farrier on the phone to explain the problem to your YM. I'd also suggest that if she doesn't tryst your judgement as an owner of one of her working liveries, you won't burden her with the livery and move him to the other yard now.
 
Thankyou for your replys, I feel a little better now knowing that I'm not in the wrong, and yes, all I have are my horses best interests and welfare at heart. If they can't see that, then bloody shame on them.

You could be dead tomorrow, you would be gutted you spent your last day on earth being sad, bleep them!! Their problem they are so sour, seriously don't let them bother you, hold your head up high, you are blatently a nice person, do not let them get to you in case you die tomorrow!!

TBH given that you have given notice I can understand them being suspicious. I'm not saying they are right, or polite! But, having just given notice at work myself, I'm now wondering what to do if the migraine I feel coming on tonight is there tomorrow... I'm fairly sure they won't believe me.

Don't worry.

Your concern for your horse, and theirs for their business are both normal. Just politely insist on what is right for your animal.
 
No one knows your horse like you do, if you say he's lame, HE'S LAME!!! If they don't believe you, tough s***! You can do without "friends" like that! Hope all goes well tomorrow.
 
agree with eerone else - speak with your farrier ask if he will ring the YM and explain what he said to you - and move your horse sweetheart. Like you Im on a yard I no longer want to be there but hanging in cause of mare's sight and me and fella are looking at moving in together so that will mean another move for her - look to the future of being somewhere you want be and spending time with your horse - do not let them bully you xxxxx
 
I'd go to the manager the minute i hit the yard in the morning and say as a paying customer you want to speak to her immediately.
Tell her how dissapointed and disgusted you are with her unprofessional behaviour. If you say your horse is lame....he is, Its not up for discussion he's your horse and you have decided hes not fit to work after taking advice from your farrier. Dont think much of the manager for bitching about you to others and not having the decency to phone you or talk to you in the first instance.
I'd leave my horse at the new yard and not go back,
 
Why on earth are you paying for working livery?!?!?! So you pay for his shoes and tack for other people to put the wear and tear on it? Sounds to me like they were taking the p**s from the start. Don't stand for any c**ap tomorrow, remind them that its your horse and you are in charge of his welfare and if they have a problem then remove your horse straight away. Might not be convienant for you at the minute but it also inconvience them as they are then a horse down
 
OP are you young? Would/does the weekend manager speak to middle aged people like this? I bet they don't because middle aged people would not stand for it, and you do not have to stand for it either. I would not be indulging in playground antics by having the yard manager phone up and speak to the farrier, deal with it yourself and tell the yard manager what's what and if he/she doesn't like it then tough. Stand up for your horse and stand up for yourself or people like this will run roughshod over you till the end of time.
 
Let me get this right..... He is your own privately owned horse. He is on working livery but you pay for your livery? He 'wasn't allowed' on private livery, only working? He's moved off the yard at nights? And you work there too?

And they're having a go at you for him not working because he's lame? I think you're being majorly taken the pee out of.

Why you faffing about with him on 2 yards anyway? He will settle much better being left on the new yard 24/7, rather than being dragged back and forth. Move him now. I wouldn't even care about 'proving' to them. It's tough Shite for them really isn't it. They sound like they just don't want to/ can't do without him on the school.
 
Not sure where OP is based but in some areas it is usual to pay (a reduced amount) for working livery.

Agree with the suggestion of moving him early if possible. (I know some places do ask you pay if your horse is unavailable for lessons - check your contract and don't give them a penny more than it says!)

Sounds very unprofessional to me. I echo what everyone else says about having firm words with yard manager and moving your horse permanently asap
 
Well done for putting your horses welfare first....maybe they have their a*** in their hand as you are moving him to a different yard..still no excuse.
Sounds like you are having a change any way,which may be a change for the best.Get them to call your farrier.good luck
