Feeling very down after the way I was treated yesterday.

Let me get this right..... He is your own privately owned horse. He is on working livery but you pay for your livery? He 'wasn't allowed' on private livery, only working? He's moved off the yard at nights? And you work there too?

And they're having a go at you for him not working because he's lame? I think you're being majorly taken the pee out of.

Why you faffing about with him on 2 yards anyway? He will settle much better being left on the new yard 24/7, rather than being dragged back and forth. Move him now. I wouldn't even care about 'proving' to them. It's tough Shite for them really isn't it. They sound like they just don't want to/ can't do without him on the school.

Ditto this ......
Get him off that riding school asap!
You don't have to explain anything.
At the end of the day he is YOUR horse not THEIRS!
If they don't like it tell them ( politely of course) to go and shove their heads up their **** because it sounds like they speak through it anyway!

What horrible people and so called friends.
If thats how they treat you and treat your horse he is better off at the new yard.
Do you still need to work there?
Sounds like you would be better working somewhere else.
Even when you horse is permanently in his new home i bet there will always be an atmosphere because you moved him.

This is exactly why I hated having my mare on working livery (she hated it too). The YO treated the mare as if she was 'their' horse and I, as the owner was an inconvenience. My horse was treated roughly, was injured (which they never told me about, I had to ask what had happened to her and even so I never got a straight answer) and they outright lied to me. I moved yards as soon as I could.

WL is quite common, the yard I was on charged £65 per week for part livery (more like assisted DIY really) and £40 for WL (the same as part, but the horse was used in the RS).

OP, you have done the right thing, don't let them get you down. :)

I pay for his livery so it's not like they can say I've been taking the p**s. We all used to get on so well, but the yard has got very bitchy and cliquey (sp again!) over the last few months. I've gone from wanting to spend all my time there and doing as much as I can, even when I'm not working, to not wanting to go there at all. I don't know whats happened :(

If you are paying for the livery, why is he working for them ? sorry confused

I'd tell them to get stuffed and move him permanently, preferably today, pay what you owe, put is down to a loss well spent for the horses wellfare

OP are you young? Would/does the weekend manager speak to middle aged people like this? I bet they don't because middle aged people would not stand for it, and you do not have to stand for it either. I would not be indulging in playground antics by having the yard manager phone up and speak to the farrier, deal with it yourself and tell the yard manager what's what and if he/she doesn't like it then tough. Stand up for your horse and stand up for yourself or people like this will run roughshod over you till the end of time.

I'm 31, but the weekend manager is very in your face, shouty, hard kind of person. But I stood up to her and all she could say was this isn't the time or place to speak about this, so told her, yes it is! Because I stood up to her she soon shut up! Alot of people are scared of her, but she is just an out and out bully and I won't stand for it any longer.

So how did you get on today proctor with the yard manager??

I said to YM I hear you want to talk to me, so she said well do you want to talk to me? So I simply said I was told by W/end manager that you were going to talk to me on Monday, so here I am, start talking! She said I hear there was a few issues over the weekend so I told her the story and that I wasn't going to be deemed as a liar by anyone on this yard. All YM said was not much can be done about that...erm yes, talk to the people in question about how wrong and unprofessional they are! I put my point across but it didn't really get me anywhere. Our chairman/boss (we are a charity run by a committee) is going to call a staff meeting as I rang him and told him everything and he is aware of how the yard has split and how bitchy it's got and he's not happy. Meeting could either kill or cure I guess, gives me chance to tell everyone how out of order they have been towards me and my horse. So watch this space!!!

Alarm bells are ringing over several points made.
A charity but using a horse for rides? Running a commercial riding school?
Not allowed more than three full liveries but can have horses on working livery?

Someone is trying to pull a fast one over planning or rates or both but most certainly won't be insured if they exceed allowed animals.

I would never never have a horse on working livery. It is always loaded in the yard's favour! Especially with an older, experienced horse. Its even easier to take the p a bit if you work there as well.

TBH I can see why the yard would perhaps be annoyed if they had not seen the blacksmith or heard what he said, and they saw the horse sound when they went down. It all sounds a bit of a wierd arrangement with the horse at one yard then another - not the best thing for your horse at all.

I would leave the horse at the new yard full time as soon as you can. I would be fair. It will only be a few weeks at most, and a big row now would probably cost you your job... I don't mean that they were right, and they certainly weren't polite, by the way.

Sounds like they were making a nice little earner out of you r hosre and have thrown toys out of pram now.
Keep your head down and take their money as long as you ca, just don't work too hard, just do what you are paid for.

YM sounds wet, weekend YM sounds unprofessional. As you work there as well kick up merry hell. Raise formal grievance for being called a liar. Sounds like the Chairman has a pair though so best of luck. Good for you for standing your ground. :)

We are run by the MOD, we are here for service personel and their families, the livery thing came from the chairman of the RNRMEA (Royal Navy Royal Marine Equestrian Assosiation) he said we are a riding school not a livery yard, hence the restrictions. 90% of the horses there are on loan from people who don't have the time for them and the yard own 4 of the horses. It's all very confusing and isn't a "normal" riding school!

Notwithstanding the above - I would still leave that yard - especially as you have somewhere else to go. Your horse will settle quite easily into his new home so don't worry about that issue. And, lets face it, you could still work weekends at the original yard if necessary - but quite honestly you should be able to get weekend yard-work elsewhere quite easily.

Sorry but whether run by MOD or a Charity, Your horse belongs to you and you alone. I'm glad you stood up to uppity manager and I'm asure that the people that have had use of him will be most upset, to know that they have been riding a lame horse. But stick to your guns, as he's a middleage person and like me start to wind down :):)a little.
