Well for those of you who follow my posts, you will know I just recently moved yards due to Ruby losing het head over individual turnout. She has been so much more relaxed since shes been at new yard. Anyways yesterday morning, I tack up and take her into the school to do some light schooling and a hack after. Was standing next to her checking girth and sorted stirrups, when my friend comes past with 2 yearlings, one rears up and loses her balance, the other kept bucking so she had to let go. I didn't mount and kept Ruby calm. The loose yearling was caught and put in the field (within sight of school) mounted up and she was fine. A little fresh but nothing too bad. Friend comes back around leading Ruby's best friend. Their field is next to the menage so i've never had a problem. Ruby started getting a bit anxiois even though her friend was in full sight at all times. Suddenly Ruby leaps into the air and tries to tank off. She then bucked and twisted and I went out the side door :o. I landed on my feet somehow but jolted my leg. Managed to keep on to her. I really wanted to get back on because I didn't want her to get away with it, but I was in complete agony (was doubled over in pain) friend saw every thing so asked could she get on (she has ridden Ruby before and loves a challenging Horse) Ruby bucked as soon as friend got on, so Ruby got a small smack with the whip, she then bounced around which friend rode through it. After about 10 minutes Ruby gave up and worked lovely. Walk, trot and canter on both reins and she was calm after a while. So friend took her back in and turnes out for me (I was hobbling around at this point)

I wanted to ride today, but knee had seized up over night, so wasn't worth it. It is much better today but still bruised and swollen :(.

No real point to this post, apart from i'm in pain and Ruby will be in the next box of Tescos burgers.

Ouch, hope you are less hobbly soon :(

Naughty Ruby but thank goodness your friend was there to get back on her and finish with her on a good note.

Ouch...glad your friend got on and worked her through it, the cheeky monkey was just taking the pee through the excitement of everything going on around her...another day and you probably stayed on?!
I hope your knee is getting a frozen bag of peas on it and your getting waited on until it's better?

She would have been wound up because of the yearling getting loose, so it should be a one off incident. well done to your friend for riding her through it. I hope that you get better soon.

Shes usually so easy in the menage, I was not expecting it! But yes I guess it was all very exciting for her! Lol. My friend was my hero yesterday! She loves to ride challenging Horses (the naughtier the better) crazy girl! Haha. I have a bag of frozen peas on my knee and have taken some ibuprofen. Can support all my weight on it and bend it easily so nothing broken. Just bruised! Lol. Naughty pony!

OOOO i was in the exact same situation with my horse being moved onto indivudual turn out, i am blaming that for me 3 falls, 2 cracked ribs, and oh yeh he stood on my butt the other day as well (Yes literally) so i shall have a look back through your posts now! Moved mine back to his old place today to go back to herd turnout :)

Oh ouch blooming horses, blooming falls I often wish someonce could invent a soft landing of fluffy feathers. Hope the leg goes down, and agree at least your friend hopped on to ensure horse went on(without you). Blloooooming horses. I decided after the last fall I had finally managed the art of a good fall. As in the past my butt always agreed with the laws of gravity.

Thanks everyone. Yes shes always been so chilled, but completly changed when she went on individual turnout. Shes out with a little group of 4 now and she has chilled so much. Hope yours will too.

Ouch hope you are ok! Bad Ruby! Think there is something in the air at the moment. My share horse who is usually lovely if a little spooky this winter kept broncing with me Thursday which was most unlike her! Have decided I will be lunging before I get on now (she has also just moved yards and has had no turn out yet) so perhaps lunge before you get on for a few times? Well done for friend riding her through it, braver than I am :D

Sometimes the worst thing you can do is land on your feet! I have a tendancy to do it and it kills my shins, knees and ankles lol I wonder why I can't land on my padded bum!? :D

I can't lunge because of a stifle problem :( but she has been having 12 hours turnout every day.

I have never landed on my feet before, I think your right, it hurts more then landing in a heap!

Ouch!Poor you. Had a similar sounding fall last week, bronked out the side door when pony spooked at some gardeners next to the menage. Also got sore stiff knee but its getting better! Worst thing for me after a fall is confidence or lack off :(.... hope you feeling better soon. x

Glad your knee is better! Mine still hurts a little. I didn't ride yesterday or today, so hoping to school her tomorrow before work. I have the yard to myself weekday mornings, so there will be no Horses being led past, to distract her.

Ouch. Pls don't land on your feet!!! Not only is it far too easy to break your ankle but can cause serious spinal damage even death:(
Sounds like she is generally much happier though and hats off to your friend
Hope you feel 100% soon

:( poor you!
I had a very similar thing on Saturday morning! My I'm so chilled im almost horizontal horse was making excuses out of the tiny weeny flakes of snow blowing in his face, then his friend went out of the school, then his mates got turned out so he was using these excuses to be lazy, popped him into canter and he took off down the long side! Got upset when I told him off, changed direction and I nearly went off the side! Luckily I stayed on but I did have a 'I'm coming off here' moment :( our lot are all a bit like that at the mo, they are on restricted turnout :( but I was suprised at him! Had a couple of controlled canters and chucked him out! Next day was as if nothing had happened!
Feel better! It's nearly spring!

:p

It ended on a good note being ridden after a situation which gives a fair reasoning for her mucking around, always nicer than an out of nowhere event.

Feel sorry for yourself, munch some choccies, tell her which burgers she'll be in next time... and then have a good ride :D

Haven't managed to ride until today (knee still hurt) I schooled this morning before work, she was great (perhaps the burger threat got to her?) did lots of trot work, including direct transitions from halt to trot and trotting poles. A nice canter on each rein to finish. My knee didn't hurt at the time, but my god does it hurt now!

lol, mine would have played up twice as bad to show me that my threats were idle.

That sounds great, hope knee is hurting less now though!
