Got bronced off a youngster at work on Tuesday. Felt okay and had a bit of a swollen hand but mum made me go to hospital and turns out i have fractured my scaphoid?? bone in my hand :( So now in a cast for 2 weeks atleast until i have more xrays then probably potted for another 6! Very annoyed, uncomfortable and frustrated. Has anybody done this before and know the general healing time? Would be really interested to know if anybody has had this fracture before and how they did it as i thought i landed completely flat on my back! (luckily had my shell on) thankyou for reading my sob story! lots of paracetamol and jaffa cakes available:D

OUCH !!! Hope you are feeling better soon.......

I was checking Shy's frog with a hoofpick a few days ago, and clearly hit a sensitive bit - before i knew it he'd launched me into a stable door - and it hurt  Not his fault at all, bless him - he stood there very upset, holding the leg up for me "sorry mum", haha, but at least I didn't break anything.

Horses eh.

Poor you!! My ex broke this bone twice, healing rates vary as to where you break it, as the blood supply varies. Don't be tempted to start using your thumb when in plaster as this really impairs healing, as my ex found out. When its plastered up unless you bang the end of the thumb by accident it doesn't tend to hurt that much, so the temptation is there to do more than you should!

The scaphoid is a tiny bone between your thumb and index finger and is very difficult to see on an x-ray. They usually plaster it because they're not sure if it's damaged or not, which sounds about right if they're x-raying it in a couple of weeks, that tells you they couldn't actually see anything on the initial picture. It doesn't take long to mend. A bit odd that you have injured that part of your hand if you landed on your back though. It's the sort you usually get when you fall and have your hand outstretched and land on it that way. Healing vibes and hope it's just a bruise/strain.x

Yeah the doctor said he saw a break on the xray which usually doesnt show up for 10 days, but fracture clinic said they saw a lump too which could be from a old injury i didnt even know i've had! I'm not totally sure how i landed as it happened so quick but know i got quite winded so back must of took a hit too! i really hope it can stay off in 2 weeks time and i can have my hand back! Thankyou :)x
