Lame today front right (have called the vet). Just wondering if anyone else has had this with simple reasons. No heat or swelling, head nodding, lame on straight and on circle hard and soft surface. Unshod/barefoot. Almost looks like from shoulder but not clear. Hoping just an abscess or something similar but panicking as third lameness in two years (never on the right fore) and the last two weren't great injuries although we've come back from those.

The wetter/softer surface with the rain we've had this week may mean he's sinking in the soil a bit more & may have bruised himself on a hidden stone. Have you tried hoof testers etc, it can take a while to show itself - what are his heels and soles like, is his digital cushion strong. Is he lame on all surfaces? Any difference on Tarmac, concrete or in the school?

Mine had something similar last week, although I did see him slip over in the field... He's been rested since, had danilom, is now off that and looks pretty much ok. Fingers crossed its nothing major and a few days has settled down.

Update : vet thinks likely to be a new or newly active splint :( going to confirm next Monday by nerve block and maybe x-ray. So other than rest any ideas? Thank you everyone :)
