House feels really empty tonight. We've just sadly had our rising 15 year old terrier put to sleep which means that for the first time in over 30+ years there is no dog in the house (do have the guard dogs outside). Just come in from feeding the horses and it's strange not having Tilly wagging her tail sitting up on the settee waiting for her cuddle (and her bit of chocolate).

Will be even stranger when I go to bed, as I've always had a dog (or two or three) sharing the bed with me too. Bet I will still automatically position myself against the wall - why is it they always end up with most of the bed.

So tomorrow will collect all her soft and squeeky toys and remove the water bowl etc and start thinking - do we get another pup or an older dog, or actually be dog-less in the house for a little while.

Why is it that the older I get, the worse it is when its time to have a horse or dog put to sleep. Rest in Peace Tilly - you deserve it.

Poor you. Big hugs to you...xx

We've just rescued a lab from a welfare centre, and I'd never been to one before. Its heart breaking how many lovely dogs are out there desperate for a home, so perhaps take one of them on in a bit when you feel ready.

Once again, hugs to you. Hope you at least enjoy sleeping "starfish" in the bed..xx

Sorry hun for your loss. I wish there was something I could say that would make you feel better - but there isn't.
RIP Tilly.

Thank you for your words and good on you for taking on a rescued dog. Every dog we've ever had has been a rescue one - even our guard dogs - we wouldn't dream of going out to buy one when there are so many dogs which have been dumped and needing homes, plus it's nice to be able to give a donation to those that have taken the dogs in.

Thanks again.
