so i havnt been on in quiet a wile

ill be honest alot has changed and a lot still is changing

chance has moved yards and is now at a large livery yard on part livery, this way he always has company when out although they go out in induvial paddocks, but he has neighbours who he is often been grooming and grazing beside.

however after his injury 18 month ago the vet advised bar shoes (once he was sound and back in work, so 10 month after the injury occurred) for a year (give heel lift and support the stretched ligaments)

any way bar shoes went on and great chance was walking well, and slowly upping work, first ride was xmas eve when my husband and saddle fitter arrange for me to go to the a local indoor and ride for the first time since injury and in the new saddle that had been order before injury but with covid and injury had sat for 12 months waiting! all went well chance was a real gent wile i cried like a baby!

then new years day came.. shoe off.. farrier refused to put bar shoes on as said it wasn't worth it if he went ripping them on, put on normal U shaped shoes.
so we carried on, moved yards in March/April and have been going well since (we now have trot and about to introduce canter) but he has taken 3 shoes off between now and then, wears over reach boots at all time, only feed good hay and a cut up apple from our garden at breakie to stop booting of the door wile others get feed. i drown is hoofs in Kevin bacon daily and just at a wits end

any help? short of making him bare hoof again (his front feet crumble like chalk) i really don't know what to do

I have used progressive earth hoof platinum supplement and it really helped, painting stuff on hooves all the time can actually prevent moisture getting in, I would ditch that and just make sure they get some water on them a few times a week

Perhaps not the ‘cleanest’ of feeds but I had great success with formula4feet when my horse was growing new hooves from severe rotational laminitis.

A good balancer, a regular amount of steady work, and consider staying barefoot. I have used Equilibra balancer for years with good results.
Take a look at all the information around hoof rehabilitation, and see if it something that could be beneficial. Good luck!

I'd also recommend two pairs over overreach boots, just to help until the supplements start to show an effect. Big ones, that more than reach the ground, with a smaller pair on top to keep them squashed down.
