Can only say that this has taken a long time in coming.

An awful lot has been going on in the background on this subject and I hope its not just a normal FEI whitewash.

I would have thought with the enormity of these allegations that a simple DNA test on hairs off the boots to see if they match the horse in question is something both parties should agree to. Or the FEI insist on one. The claim is the boots were "planted" and if so then they would never have been used on that horse at all and therefore no DNA match.

I wouldn't have thought they would want to do a DNA test.

I assume you mean Hoy / Brugman would'nt want a DNA test? No reason why the FEI would NOT. Very inexpensive.

I can't imagine the cost would be what is detering the FEI!

Not a good week for eventing IMHO. Horse fatalities, and now this case.

This case imo has stayed under the radar for so long. It was weeks after the incident that it was reported in the press as a 'sensitive' matter. Not helped by the Barroca officials not really knowing what to do. Everyone at the event knew what was going on.

Put it this way Miss Brugmans father is very very rich and I am sure will not let this matter drop if it effects his daughter in anyway. IF the FEI verdict goes against his daughter expect repercussions.

AH is not that popular so it will be interesting to see what the written statements come out saying as several pros have written them including a team member who dislikes him immensely.

Hi was wondering whar Do spiked boots do? make the horses jump/run faster? They sound horrible!

Fox00, the spiked boots are spiked on the insides so that if the horse touches a pole, it gets jabbed by the spikes, to make it more careful. the modern-day version of the old legend of laying hedgehog skins on the poles, i guess.
sometimes people (allegedly!) use lotions and potions to make the legs super-sensitive, too.

I hope that they get banned if found guilty. I think it disgusting to do that to a horse.
As an aside, when I bought the farm here in France, there were some jump poles and barrels that the previous tenants hadn't bothered to take with them. They had been a show jumping/dealer/breaking yard.
I was stacking the poles when tidying up not long after I got here, and two of the heaviest of them had loads of little sharp nails all over the centre section. Obviously put there to prick the horse if it hit them.
I couldn't believe it.....

Is he not? I didn't know that, always thought they were popular. I've never likes the Hoys to be honest... But thats just my humble opinion.

We went to try a horse at a well known show / working hunter producers yard some years ago in the UK. Among the jumps in the arena - one was a telegraph pole with barbed wire wrapped around it, another was a chain between two wings, the chain holding round brushes like the ones used to sweep chimneys. Apart from the shock of seeing them I was even more amazed they actually did nothing to hide them from prospective customers. I questioned the vendor and they just said "it's teaches them to keep their feet up"!!!!

I heard this too at Badminton, the rumours are that they aren't the nicest people to their horses

I've always thought they seem really nice so I was quite surprised to hear that...
Also the jungle drums have been saying that he might do a little more than just "Train" Miss Brugman

I have been in eventing circuit since 2002 and have not heard that he is not popular, thats news to me and my horse is on a high level eventing......and i doubt that FEI will take any notice what so ever that the father is very rich....

No the FEI will not take into account about the father being rich but money buys you a lot of very good lawyers and it can ruin reputations with pressure.

AH may not be exactly unpopular and most people have a great deal of respect for his riding and preparation but he's not Mr Popular either: he has hardly courted popularity with some of his methods of obtaining rides etc. I think the point is other pros aren't going to rush to his defence, more likely watch with interest

As far as Ms Brugman is concerned I reiterate what I said in a post when this first came out: I crossed paths with her at Kreuth a couple of years ago and found her bordering on the unpleasant (off the subject, but what was she doing competing a horse that someone else had ridden round the Athens Olympics in a 2* anyway?!

), and nothing I have seen or heard of her since has changed my view. AH, however, has proclaimed his innocence privately as well as publicly and I personally am inclined to believe him - he is a bit weird and can be both naive and dippy - how many people have seen him take the wroing course, start before the bell etc??! Who knows, I'm probably way out on both counts, but it will be interesting to see how it all pans out.
