I really hope this turns out to be untrue. Eventing doesn't need an image problem. The dutch especially are very "animal rights" heavy, and not very in favour of eventing at all, you would think a dutch rider would be aware of this.
crikey, she's not very bright then, is she? bad enough to use them, don't get me wrong, i would never ever use such a thing, but to take them to an International Event and use them defies belief. poor horse, i hope they throw the book at her.
er, it's not been proven she did it yet! The article says evidence was collected at the time but the ground jury couldn't make a decision, which suggests to me she wasn't caught with the horse actually wearing them, and it could therefore be some very vicious rumour-mongering and "eye-witness" accounts. If she did do it by all means suspend her (although seeing AT's "reprimand" what do we think this rider would get?!), but until it's proven she IS innocent.
fair enough, but i've never seen or heard vicious rumour-mongering at BE, ever, and i can't help thinking that as there seems to be quite a few witnesses, both riders and officials, according to the H&H report, then maybe there's no smoke without fire...
Haven't you?! I tend to find out more at Internationals, a few beers get tongues wagging and then there's no stopping some rider's opinions! Maybe you're right about the smoke and fire, let's wait and see what happens. Have to say, it would be nice to see some prompt, decisive action from the FEI. Too many scandals lately (mostly in SJ) seem to have sort of died away without satisfactory explanation.....
I am sorry but i do not beleive for a minute that A Hoy would be involved in something like that, and he would be the last one to be seen removing a banned boot on such a big event as Barroca, where he got all the eyes on him..
There are so many different kind of boots out there and maybe they swapped boots for one reason and the lining of the boots looked spikey ???
Let's just wait and see the outcome of FEI investigation...Hoping for everyone (including poor horse) involved that the presumption of innocence proves right.
As for the Dutch and their "concern for animal rights", sorry but don't think they're any better than all the others seeing how they produce their dressage horses

Totally agree. The Brits are see as the fore-runners in the world for animal rights (the Americans societies tell them to learn from our anti-hunt protestors etc) and the Dutch are certainly behind the Brits from what I've seen so far. I worked for a short time on a SJ yard when I first moved here and they basically treat their horses like robots.. hence why I stopped working there. They export trade for horses here is so strong that they mass produce horses with not enough education then people wonder why they buy horses that have problems.
Obviously, this is a bit of a generalisation and there are many fantastic owners over.
I also have a theory that the reason the Dutch only do well in SJ and Dressage is because there are no hills (OK, there is 1 300m high in south Holland) and therefore eventing just isn't feasible as you can't get the horses as fit.
Rant over!!
Reserving judgement on this case till there is some concrete proof. Some breathable boots have soft nodules on the inside of them which from a distance could be mis-interpretted I suppose.
I met said rider at Kreuth a couple of years ago and I have to say didn't take to her, she's a pretty cold fish and she has a show-jumping background... I'm happy to draw my own conclusions. Maybe AH hadn't realised what she was doing and took them off as soon as he did - he could do without the bad publicity by association!!
I've heard that Andrew Hoy was seen putting the boots on in the collecting ring. Madeleine has confirm that the bag where the boots were found was hers but not the boots and that someone else must have left them on her bag.....
The fact that someone had spiked boots at the event at all is pretty terrible.
As for being associated with her he is her trainer but Andrew was down as being joint owner of a couple of her horses in Portugal which he hasn't been before.
Could they not just like look for hair on the boots and DNA test to ti the horses she has and well, if they most don't match then you would know they were planted?
Personally if she was cruel enough to use them, I doubt she would be stupid enough to bring them to an event!!

You'd need enough hair with the roots attached. Shed hair doesn't have the roots. So DNA is doubtful.
