FEI to ban use of Calmers?

This is only third hand from someone who was at the first BEF Anti Doping Education Days held at Darlington this week but amongst the new rules from 5th April FEI has stated that the use of herbal products that provide a calming effect are illegal - regardless of whether there is a test for the ingredients... basically if they can prove intent you will be guilty.

Does this include all magnesium based calmers? Has anyone else heard this? Thoughts please?

I seriously hope not,....... means I will have a VERY interesting first few rounds BS(JA) on my youngster :S

I have not heard this. But i know Lavender is on the band substance list already due to it's calming effect. I knew this from endurance. I was told to make my own fly sprey as most ready made ones contain lavender.

this shouldn't include magnisium as the effects address a dietary deficiency. Most other 'vegetable' products, valerian, lavender, etc, are already banned at that level

tbh i think it's a good idea, for event horses anyway, as anything which takes the edge off the horse's reaction time could potentially be disastrous...
