Any reccomendations for a good (paletable) one?

My cat is about 9 now and has always been a stocky kitty. Occasionally he sqeaks when he jumps down from places, so I think hes getting a little stiff so I want to try him on a joint supplement to make him happy and non squeaky again
 
Paletable?? NO!!

Our kitty was supposed to have it after a serious accident (fireworks) but we just could not get him to eat any make. Good luck

If he's already stiff to the point where he hurts to jump down from things CM, it probably means he has a touch of arthritis. My understanding is that joint supplements may make a difference as a preventative measure but where bony arthritic changes have already taken place they can't reverse things. Your moggie may be better off on a low daily dose of metacam to make him more comfortable.

I have three OAP cats and use the cat flexi-joints from Heathspan's Vetvits. This is their web site www.vetvits.co.uk. They also do stuff for horses and dogs too.

Flexi-joints comes in a tablet form so, I use a mortar and pestle to make the tablet into a powder and put it into some wet food and mix it in really well.

If your cat still dosn't eat it, maybe try 'Arthri Aid' which comes in a liquid. I think you would only need, about 2.5 ml which is easily lost in some wet food too.

I took my old boy to the vet recently, as he was hobbling around. The vet did some bloods, and I was told not to give him metacam as he had a dodgie kidney, so be careful giving metacam to an oldie, just in case.

That's really helpful info Shanny. Of course, metacam is a prescription medicine so I wouldn't expect it to be given to any animal without being prescribed by a vet after careful examination and consideration of the patient.
 
If your cat won't eat Glucosamine supplements try Royal Canin Canine mobility tablets, they have extract of green lip muscle. The dose for a cat is half a tablet daily, and they love em.....!

He isn't sore all the time, and you can't predict when he will squeak. It definatly doesn't stop him doing anything, he just makes a funny noise!!

Will get him some cod liver oil first - this cat eats potatoes if allowed, as well as anything he can get his paws on - crisps, cake, meat. The sides HAVE to be left clear! lol
 
My cat is on metacam from the vets. She has arthritis in her shoulders and neck. She had x-rays and took part in a metacam trial many years ago. This was to help them find a feline version for our feline friends. She had regular x-rays and blood tests, nothing invasive.

He tried her on Glucosamine, but she didnt like it.
Have since tried her on Feline cortaflex and NAF hip right. She didnt like those either. She objected to CLO too.

She has a bioflow collar on at night when we are in the house and this has helped a lot. The other night she boxed the ears of next door's cat.

Its trial and error as to which your cat likes.

Metacam is the feline version of Danilon/bute and has given my cat a new lease of life.
