Fell off jumping approx 6 weeks ago and landed on my left shoulder. didn't go to Docs/hosp as thought it would settle down after a week or so. Anyway it has to a certain extent, however cannot lie on my left side as my shoulder and arm goes numb and I cannot move it.

Doesn't get any worse riding, driving, although seems to be having an effect on my neck on the same side and a slight weakeness lifting my arm upwards.

Apart from taking ibuprofen and Arnica, anyone got any recommendations to help. am trying to do excercises to prevent it seizing up but still painful 6 weeks down the line.

Thanks for any helpful suggestions. May have to end up at docs in the end

Doctor, I think :(

I fell off jumping in August 2009 & landed heavy on my left shoulder. It has got worse, like you I can't lie on it, lift my arm to shut the boot etc.

Long story short, looks like joint has separated & rotator cuff is b*ggered :( MRI end of Sept, back to specialist next week, surgery likely.

Don't put it off! I would get to A&E personally, going through GP takes an age. If nothing else, they can refer you for physio, which can only help.

Wish you all the best with it (and lots of sympathy) :)

Similiar scenario to me!

I fell off my horse early April this year, jumping pretty big, he overjumped the jump and I lost balance, he went right, and I landed smack on my left shoulder (he was a big 17HH so I fell from a good height!) almost passed out and had to lay on the floor until I could stand.

Me being me, got up, got back on and carried on jumping! I see an osteopath regularly as I get a lot of tension build up, but I always have a dull ache on the upper half of my back, on the should blade and close to my spine on the left side.

Went to the Osteo on Wednesday, who clicks and cracks my neck and spine, and the Osteo guy did say that my left side seems to be inflammed, particular around the ribs, anway, my shoulder is feeling alot worse today. I think it's about time I go and do something about it!

I think you should head to A&E, it's definitly worth checking out to avoid further problems and pain in the future. Pain killers will only mask the problem.

Hope you get it sorted and feel better soon :o) xx

Please can I ask you do not go to A/E - it is not an emergency or a recent accident and this is why waiting times are so long.:(
It may not take long to go through your GP and A/E will not refer you on - they will refer you back to your GP as a non urgent attender.

I have no issue with people in acute (recent) pain attending and certainly accidents within 24 -48 hours attending but something you have had for this long is not an emergency or a recent accident.

Sorry but you will not get much attention (or you wouldn't where I work:eek:) but your GP should be able to refer you direct for any xrays needed and to a specialist orthopaedic surgeon/and/or/physio which is almost certainly what you need - please do go to your GP:)

Misst, while I fully appreciate your point (honestly), I wish it were that simple! Living in chronic pain from an injury like this, not sleeping etc is miserable.

I went back to my GP on 12th May, finally had MRI on 30th Sept & am only now finally seeing consultant on 21st October :(

Unfortunately if this were me again, I would be heading down to A&E, creating a 'new' bump to my shoulder if needs be. I know this is not the way the system should work, but sadly it is (round here, at least).

NELSON11, I hope you have more luck than me :(
