I've sadly had the opportunity to try out my hitair vest this week :o Horse jumped huge (I didn't)However my instructor felt the vest contributed to my fall and I couldn't breath afterwards, it was awful. She struggled to get the vest off for me so I assume it's just too small?

My ribs and neck hurt like hell, but I guess I don't know how much worse I'd feel had I not been wearing it!

Everyone else seems to rave about their airvests but I'm considering selling mine now and maybe getting a Kanteq BP instead!

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Did the shop not test the air jacket on you when you purchased it. I know mine did to ensure my Point 2 fitted correctly and it didn't hurt when it went off!

It definitely sounds like a poor fit. I've fallen off a couple of times in my HitAir and felt fine afterwards, no winding or aches, and easy to take off. How tight is it when uninflated on you? Mine isn't tight to my body, I can easily wear a jumper underneath, and still fit about a fists width between my body and the air jacket.

I can wear a jumper and coat underneath and just about fit my fist in when I've not got these on. I bought from hitair online and just referred to their sizing guide.

Perhaps I'm just a wimp, looks like it's not a common problem with hit air vests then!

I don't understand how it could have contributed to your fall? Also they should deflate quickly so are easy to remove, I have never had a problem with mine. It is very comfortable when it goes off and I love the support around my neck. It would def be worth getting someone to check it out.

That is why buying safety equipment online should if possible be avoided. cCearly this dos not sound like it fits correctly. Also were you wearing a body protector underneath (which you should do as they are not a substitue for each other). Hitair is normally very forgiving in terms of sizing/fit so this one must be quite a bit too small. Also how did it contribute to the fall?

How did it contribute to your fall?! I don't get that.

I also don't get the 'couldn't breath afterwards' type comment - the hit air inflates outwards - it shouldn't feel any different to when you wear it uninflated. I know this as I accidently triggered mine the other day when dismounting and it took me a few seconds to figure out what had happened - didn't feel a thing in terms of constriction. If you had said point 2 I could understand that, as they inflate inwards.

Any air vest works by holding its contents tightly and providing a rigid cushion. It sounds like you weren't expecting that. By all means sell your hitair and buy a Kanteq but remember they are designed to do different things!
