Well after jumping very successfully on Tuesday night I was in my normal Wednesday night lesson last night.

Went to jump a jump which we had jumped very successfully on Tuesday (and it was higher on Tuesday) and at the very last second my horse ducked out, throwing me off balance, and then bolted. Unfortunately she bolted towards the edge of the school which is form by the back of a hay shed and then quickly turned towards the other horses and I fell off. Scraped myself down the side of the shed and fortunately she managed to avoid trampling me. I did get straight back on her and take her over the jump.

I don't know, I feel such a numpty.

Should I be even jumping at all?

Of course you should !!! I bet the top riders still fall off. If you didn't come off, how would you learn from your mistakes ?

The main thing is that you weren't badly hurt, and you had the confidence to get back on - and you did the jump. Don't worry about one blip, you'll be fine :)

Aww, don't worry it happens to us all :) Perhaps give her a day off between jumping. Don't give up though, it's all trials and tribulations with horses :D

I fell off at the last begginers show jumping, well more like orbiting a spread, I didn't feel a numpty at all, everyone comes off at some point, you got back on and did it so why feel a numpty :)

don't be daft, of course you should be jumping- you got back on and took her over the jump-well done! some people wouldn't have got back on to to give it another go.
It's just one of them things but I know what you mean it does get you down abit when you seem to have quite a few falls-just think of how well you did on tue and the fact that you got back on and took her over the jump xx

Of course, just keep at it! The amount of times I used to get decked!!! :D You got back on, did it and no worse for wear :)

Just really think positively at each fence and don't doubt. Regardless of seeing the wrong stride coming or even if you're unerved by the fence....just ride forwards [both body and mentally!] and commit yourself 100% to getting over the fence. Don't think of anything BUT going over it and ride it and most times out of 10, the horse is then committed also. Remember coming to each fence, the horse is putting it's trust in the rider to keep it safe. Commit to the horse all the way in, then let the horse commit to you and jump it. Sit back, keep your lower leg firm and just completely commit to it and kick on forwards until you've taken off :) I say chanel that 'out hunting' feeling haha.

Thanks for the replies :)

You are all of course right I am just being silly I think. Mind you when you get to my age the falls hurt more I must say!

Well tonight I think I will just do some ground work with her for fun and then take it from there.

But thanks and choccies to you all you have made me smile :)

Haha :D Taken me bout 7 months to finally do it myself in showjumping...out hunting, fine! But jumping SJ's?!?!? Hell nooooo. Lmao. Go figure!

I am 46. But in my defence I do have a dodgy hip and dig fracture my right foot the last time I came off 6 weeks ago!

But you guys are so right. I am going to carry on jumping and in fact there is a competition on Sunday and I am going to enter it.

I will keep you all posted as to how I do.

I used to fall off that often at college the instructor used to make me jump first, he used to say if I stayed on everyone else would :D

Please to hear you are carrying on with your jumping. 10 year on, I'm still jumping, and stay one most the time niow!!

Definately keep us all updated!
