well today i hit the floor again.
5th time ever.
and it was exactly the same as my last fall.
A dog appeared out of no where she spooks, spins, gallopsthe opposite direction.i start to slip out the ssaddle i eventually get her to a walk i slip, hit the floor, land in front of her she panics treads on me then stands and watches me.
she stood on my leg and kicked me in the head as she stood on me :( she has done this each time i have fallen off, she jusst panics when i land in front of her so scrambles over me and then settles and that is where i get my injuries from.
but the thing that really got to me, was the woman ad teenager whos dog it was watched me spin and then hit the floor, but she still walked away not even bothering to ask me how i was. even though i couldnt answer as the shock left me crying on the floor :( so my friend who hacked with me helped me up sorted out casseys saddle and gave me a leg up back on our way home.
it was the worst of my five falls, and i think im gooing to have to start pretending to fall off so she stops scrambling on me when i fall.
Now lying in bed, really tired, leg really badly bruised and bleeding in the shape of a hoof, a little headache :(
feeling very sorry for myself.

oh no hope you are ok, if you have had a kick in the head should really get yourelf checked out if you have any headaches or dizzyness, may need to change your hat aswell as damage may have occured inside where you can not see it,

I have read somewhere think it was a horse magazine where they did a sesion on a horse similar to yours that used to panic, they used a saddlecloth and basically in the end when they lunged the horse and the saddlecloth fell off the horse would just stop and stand still, obviously there were stages to achieve inbetween (cant really remember)

maybe a good idea to put another post up asking if anyone remembers this article?

really do hope you are ok and horrible of the woman not to stop and check you are ok,

You poor thing, can't believe the woman didn't stop to help you seen as it was her dog that made your horse spook.
Hope you soon feel better big (((hugs)))

Dont worry im finee :) and yes a new hat is going to be bought asap :) quite happy tbh :) and yes i agree with the teaching her not to panic i shall post a thread on asking how to do this thankyou! :)

I am just appalled that the woman didn't have the courtesy to stop! What is wrong with people!?

Take care of yourself and I hope you feel better soon. It's no fun to get stepped on like that.

Poor u! hope ur ok, i hope this doesnt cause offence but try sticking a flash between the d's and doing it up, makes for a kinda balance strap, but doesnt poke up, i used to use this trick when breaking my mare who'd bolt and bronc as she stopped, just helps u keep ur bum planted in the saddle a bit.

A strong lower leg position works wonders in keeping you aboard during a 'omg i'm going home panic panic' spin! I was on my friends horse the other day and he did that, I swear for a couple of seconds there was NO horse underneath me, but because I've been working on my leg position recently and obviously secured it somewhat, I managed to stay on!

I'm not in any way suggesting you have a poor leg position (I don't know!) but just my experience, as someone who's hit the deck many a time :) Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I think I remember the article about making a horse as safe as possible when the rider falls off. They used a dummy and the horse was trained to stop whenever the dummy was pulled off. Take care of your head and get checked over if you feel dizzy or if the pain gets any worse. Just isn't worth taking risks with your brain.

yess my position could probably use work with but witha good position i doubt it would have changed as i lost my stirrup and so the saddle slipped and then i fell, the only thing keeping it on from spinning all the way round was her breastplate and d-rings :)

hmm i shall have a search for that post :D thankyou! :)

Sorry to hear you fell off. To stop your mare from panicing you could have someone walk her round whilst you hold a light coloured saddle cloth on her. Pull it off her and use some large treat to throw on the saddle cloth that she can see. Have her handler show her the treat and you will soon have her walking round and stopping when the saddle cloth comes off to find her treat. This usually helps but if you fall off again be sure to have a treat in your pocket to keep her happy :) xx good luck x

Wouldn't have lost your stirrup though ;) I had exact same situation with the saddle slipping, but no breastplate - my keeping weight down into my 'anchor' legs kept me just about upright to get back in the saddle! Know what you mean though, sounds like the saddle slip and no stirrup was too much on this occassion - one day you'll find you just stay up there when it happens- its a good feeling!

ahh i understand! very true actually :) yes i just wasnt prepared, i was so close to staying on she even walked and then thats when i hit the floor, i got into a habit of dropping the reins as the first time i fell off her she dragged me then stood on me! :/ silly pony

also thanks for the idea of the saddle cloth! i will practice this when i get the chance.

Sorry for your fall, but as the saying goes your not a rider untill you've fallen 7 times:) just two more to go;)

This means I should be at the Olympics then :) :) as I've lost count of the number of times I've fallen off in the last 40+ years

Sorry to hear about your fall though, and please go and get your head checked, I didn't realise that I had fractured my skull once until about 6 months later.
