I was having a dressage lesson tonight and my mare has been a bit of a handfull lately. Started to do little rears when excited. I was following behind someone and they went into trot, she was messing around with her head and by the time she started trotting was left behind a bit she started bouncing/rearing then did a huge rear nearly went over backwards, and bucked to balancer herself out. I fell/jump off the side. She is a big horse to fall from 16.2hh, I have had her 2 yrs, she is 6 this year and always well behaved, just starting to do these little rears when excited but never the one like tonight. Sorry about the long story just wanted to get it out. Thanks

keep going, did you get back on her? i had my confidence knocked badly in november (someones horse bolted on me, i stayed on but....), dont let her upset you, you have said how well behaved she normally is so put it out of your mind and get back on as soon as possible, possibly without the distraction of another horse around? good luck.

Someone put her in the stable for me and untacked her by the time i had got up from the shock, hurt my knee on the saddle, when i got to the stable she was quite nervous of me. I put her rug on and put her out. I should have got back on but was worried she would do it again but go over. I am going to lunge her tommorw and get some energy out of her. I might get on my 4 year old tomorrow see how i get on. Thanks for your advice.

she will be nervous, a horse i used to share got very nervous of jumping with me after a xmas show where i fell off twice (i blame the mulled wine!), she didnt know what she had done and your mare will probably feel the same so lots of tlc needed. if she does it again tho, different story completely. enjoy - oh how lovely to have a "spare"!!

Thank you for your very thoughtfull advice. I will have a go on the young one tomorrow she if she can behave herself. Shall i post a picture of the naughty mare?

absolutely! and i might return the favour with the mare i share that i scare haha - altho she scares me sometimes with her bucks and rears of excitement - and my new OWNED cob i bought last week. so excited - everyone at work is bored of horse photos! swapsy!

keep yor chin up i came off my horse sunday on the road and landed on my face i have multiple head injuries and a badly cut face. keep chin up and be safe. im am going to work with mine when im better, however there is a difference in greenness and excitment to being dangerous so just take care xxxx

Blimey there must be something in the air, my youngster (just turned 6 as well) has been playing up lately too, doing the bouncing / spinning / bucking thing.
