I have a 3 year old fell pony. He is a lovely chunky build, about 13.1hh. He is very short backed and a few comments at my yard have made me have second thoughts about my size for riding him. I am 5ft 2inches, size 10 seat and weight 9 stone. Would he be able to carry my weight? I think he would myself but just want some opinions thanks

Don't worry natives are good weight carriers and at 9st you are hardly heavy.. I have had exactly the same from one person about my 14.2 cob x Arab.

You have no worries at all he will carry you very easily, I have just broken a fell gelding he is nearly 14h but i am heavier than you.

I would just ignore whoever is making the comments go to any show and most of the people riding fells are adults.

They are lovely ponies and can do most things I am sure you will have lots of fun.:)

Fell ponies are the original 'Pack Horse'.

As far as weight goes, the rule was 1 penny a pound, £1 a pack. In real money there was 240lb in a pack. Therefore a pack weighed 17 stone. I wouldn't worry if I were you.
