Fence jumper is at it again!

Ed is back to his fence jumping ways, I'm at a loss for what's caused it this time. They have rotated fields (which has happened before). No new horses. He's jumping out of his field, into an empty field next door with less/the same grass.

Any ideas people? Or do I really own a horse that jumps for fun?!

Well the last time it ws because he'd been out of work for 3 weeks, however my sharer has only been away a week if that, so I wouldn't have thought he's hankering after work yet...but maybe he is. I guess we'll see when she comes back.

I have a workaholic horse! I said to my YO maybe we could hook him up to the horsewalker and make him generate electricity!
 
Any in season mares in with him? My boy will jump out when a mare gets after him (he seems to have some kind of animal magnetism where girls are concerned only he is really scared of their flirtacious advances!) Perhaps thats just him, he is a little odd!
 
Frank, my OHs other half, leaps 4ft electric fence for fun! His particular favourite is if he knows that I'm going to be there...he doesn't mess around with his daddy, funnily enough!

Good luck, I know how frustrating it is.

What would happen if you left him in the empty field he's jumping in to?!

I sympathise. My elderly Welsh has decided he needs to go visiting. He pops out from his "home" with my young mare, in with the sheep or visits the big mare and her gelding companion - he's supposed NOT to be in with them because the two geldings are both chestnut and both display stallion-y tendencies and I really don't want the big mare caught in the middle of any fisticuffs. He will also nip out and across the field to visit his previous longterm companion, a Section A.

Quite often he's just out grazing on the fresh grass though and if you sneak up the field track you'll catch him there. If he sees you coming however he'll hop back over the nearest fence and stand there as if butter wouldn't melt "Out? Who? Me? Never!"
 
He's in a gelding only paddock :) and doesn't even jump out when there's horses in the neighbouring one! Odd sod!

He's fine to stay there, really, its just the seasonal (he only does it in winter) worry that he'll misjudge it one day.

He'll be 15 next year and is a high mileage boy after being hunted most of his life - I just worry one day his creaky joints and hefty lump will miss it and I'll end up with him stuck on the fence :(

Thing is, bar raising the entire fencing to 6ft+ including the gate, would mean I need to rotate that fencing every time we move fields, which is often.

The only other option is to stable him 24/7 but I hate the thought of it.
 
Could you add electric fencing on top of the existing fence to make it higher? We had to do this for a horse on my yard, its very easy to move, and set up. Or make it more fun in his current field, put out some licks, treat balls, haynets or anything else he likes.

We could do, however as I share the field everyone would have to be in agreement, worth a talk though. No treats in field as its a big group of geldings and it'll cause fights - but thanks for the idea!
 
I have a fence jumper....last December he got a hind leg caught and pulled a tendon, and just last week he got caught in wire fencing and has cut himself up very badly. I
am not a happy person as YO needs to sort her fencing out as this is two hefty vet bills I would rather not have had.
On top of that it was the first day of camp for my daughter (he is her pony) so I had to throw her in at the deep end and give her my mare for it, who is a big power house of a girl compared to the wee chap, who looks after my daughter every step.
I think he jumped because the grass in his field is low now, and his stomach is very important to him!!
