Fench Link vs. Eliptical Link/Penut

There must be some diference in how they work, because Star will tolerate an eliptical link, but a French link - no way. I do think that the French link is supposed to 'drape', but being so thin, it may dig in. The peanut types can't really dig in can they. Not an expert opnion I know.....
