please help i have a 15.2 tb mare who has no respect for fencing does anyone have any suggestions? She is so annoying, with electric fencing she goes straight through it even if it is turned on. With post and rail she goes over the top of it, i would like new high post and rail but cant afford it, please help!!

could you put the electric fence on top of the fence? think you can get extenders for the top of the posts to raise them about a foot, might stop her a bit!!??!!

apart from that i'm out of ideas!!!!!!

Is she is jumping over the existing post and rail then you have no option but to raise the height and put electric on the inside of it. Maybe you need to have your charger sorted out or have a more pwerfull one if she is running through it.

I'd be asking why she is trying so hard to get out. Is she on her own or with other horses she doesn't like or who bully her? Is there no grass? Must be some reason she needs to get out all the time - is there something you could change for her that might help??? My boy was banned from turnout at our last yard because from Sept to May, all the geldings got turned out for an hour or two a few times a week if they were lucky, on a small mud square. My boy worked out how to get through their sagging barbed wire fencing to the grass in the field next door so rather than mend the bl**dy fence, they banned him from turnout! He dropped a huge amount of weight in misery and depression and after a couple of months and a lot of agonising, I moved yards. He's now in a totally gorgeous, horse- (and owner-) friendly yard with turnout 24/7 and grass up to his ears. You might have those sort of level decisions to make about your girl. Good luck x

i dont know if you can see the fence behind my hoodini pony!! its tape on top and then we've got orange wire zig zagged across middle and bottom, its all electric and it keeps him in!! its a cheap and good way to do fencing. my friend has 2 sweet itch sufferers and she's going to do it as they wont be able to rub on it.

Mine jumps over most types of fencing though I must say, post and rail looks more substantial and therefore she doesn't go through this - though does over it sometimes!

It's tricky when they run THROUGH electric fencing. If you've got post and rail already, I would put up electric fence in front of and behind it, leaving approx 3ft gap between the electric and the post and rail. Use wooden posts if you can afford it, as they stand up to the tension better than polyposts. Use 3 - 4 strands of the electric rope to a height of 4ft plus, and make sure it's electrified at all times. You can buy a voltage tester for about £10. The voltage needs to be quite high to give them a good zapping.
