Fencing off a strip of field - how wide?

This evening, I'll be fencing off a strip of our disgustingly lush grass for my 15hh cob and a 13hh pony to share. They get on very well, and we'll be having multiple water buckets to cut down on resource guarding, so I'm not expecting any trouble, but I'm a bit unsure about how wide to make the strip. I'm currently thinking around four metres? I don't want it so narrow that one horse can block it but, equally, I don't want it so wide that it ends up as more of a square than a strip.

I did about 6-7m for two ponies that don't always get on so well, and that was was plenty of space. But then when we had the grass flush last month it ended up being too much grass (field is about 100m long). So I'd say 4m should be fine, so long as you don't have a kicker.

my track is about 3 meters wide by 150 meters long it is round a square field but blocked near the water so food at one end water at the other they have to walk all the way round for food and open the strip about a foot deep each day. Water is near the field gate and tap. They love to race round it two ponies together not the best of mates but it is wide enough to avoid accidents

I think I did 3-4m when I had my two on a track - 14.2hh and 15.1hh and best friends. I'd make it wider if I wasn't confident they got on. Don't feel you have to give them the full track yet if the grass is super lush - I always start mine on a smaller section and then strip graze as needed. Works well on a track as you don't have as much fencing to move back!

My track is 5 metres but I strip grazed it first. Water is in a different field, fenced area of hard standing so no grazing in there. They have a central bare soil loafing area between the fields and a barn to get out of the flies. Big bale of barley straw in the barn so they can fill up bellies if feeling hungry. The more they can move the better.
