Fencing payment for rented field - should I pay this?

I own a pretty big horse farm where most of the horses who live here are on all inclusive full care livery and as such they pay proportionately. Their monthly costs cover all maintenance, all repairs etc. and rightly so.

However, I also rent out 2 fields to a couple of owners who have multiple horses and choose to do their horses daily. They pay to rent these fields for a FAR lesser price than if they were here on full care livery. And as such, they pay for their own feed, hay and fencing repairs and maintenance. These fields were newly fenced with top quality fencing when they arrived and they are supposed to keep them as they found them and make any necessary repairs from damage caused by their horses.

I have very good contracts for all of my clients however and there are no grey areas about who is responsible for what. You and your field owners need to have such a contract.
 
If its a one of £30 then i cant see that it would pay for the materials and labour - are you sure its not just a token payment?

If its £30 a month for x months then i would approach them with your cheaper costings and reach an agreement since they didnt clear their costs with you first

Really if their horses have been away you should have a good idea how the damage was caused

On a related note i rent a field and meet the cost of all repairs
 
I rent a livery yard. Any repairs that need doing I do and pay for./ wouldn't dream of asking landlord to pay for damage caused by my horses

NO Amymay - the grazer is NOT responsible for the general maintenance of the fence. They are responsible for damage their horse does but the rent covers the grazing and the general wear and tear on fences and gates.

The grazer in consultation with the owner may be responsible for weed control - but again this is usually covered in the rental.

The grazer then has a duty of care to monitor the grass, pick up/or harrow the dung, ensure that troughs are kept clean and free from dead animals.

When you rent grazing there are actually rules/laws in place that state what the owner must supply. Each horse should have sufficient space and grazing to maintain its basic condition, if the owner is renting out postage stamp paddocks he is supposed to supply hay when required to make up the shortfall. Somewhere in UK legislation is all the details but its a long time since I have needed to use UK stuff so have no idea now where to find it.

depends-I am on a grazing tenancy and the landlord has no responsibility towards my horses, fencing and horse's welfare is down to me.

what is a fencing panel-like a garden fence?

In my experience they would be - and your response seems to be in agreement.

However as we now know that the op is a grazing livery, I would agree that her situation is a little different.
 
I was on a livery yard paying double the normal rate for my area for grass livery. There wasn't enough grass in the field so my mare kept snapping electric fencing leaning to get out for more grass. The YO said that I should pay but as I had no contract in place, and I was paying for a service (ie enough grass & fencing maintained) I didn't. I'm now at a yard where there's grazing coming out of their ears there's so much! But it just gives an indication that if you pay livery, I wouldn't pay for the repairs but if you pay just to rent the field I would.
