I have just had post and rails erected and it has come to a lot more than I expected. The chap has done a nice job but he didn't measure it properly, we only wanted half the length doing but he said if we had the whole length doing he would reduce the price by 50p a metre. He estimated the whole length as 112 metre. He was also going to fit our gate in but said that the cost of the posts would be about the same as putting the rails in that space. We supplied the gate.
We agreed to have it all done. When finished he measured it and it was 130 metres and we have just had the bill and the posts and fitting our gate is £160 plus vat. I have queried this and he said he said that price. Plus he did take 50 p a metre off.
Has anyone had a gate fitted , how much was it without the price of the gate.
Sorry to ask this about it has come to about £300 more than I thought it was going to be. Thank you

I had 20metre by 25 post and rail with a gate fitted in all came just under £500 hope this helps but we did a lot with a friend cheap labour lol.

We charge £85 to hang a gate if we're also doing a job there but if it's just the gate to do then to erect the posts (which usually involves digging the holes deep enough, cementing them in which involves two separate journeys as you have to wait a few days for the cement to go off) and hang the gate (which means putting the fixings and latches in place too, checking for levels etc) then it's £120 plus materials.
TBH, if your man measured wrongly in his favour then he should have knocked a bit more off the bill IMO even though it's exactly the same work that's been done. After all, he might not have got the job at all if he had measured properly in the first place, you might have decided to either wait to save up the extra or go with someone else with a better price. Bit naughty I think and likely to lose him custom because you're not going to recommend him after that even if the work is good.

I think the gate posts and gate fitting price sounds about right - sorry :-( You dont quote a price for the fence so cant comment on that. The only thing I can say is once the bill is paid you never ever regret having the extra length done, we tend to take a deep breath, eat gruel and enjoy the lovely safe sturdiness :-))

We had some fencing done last summer 200 mtrs by a contractor and it was £4.95 per metre which was £1000 then the gate was £180 and thicker gate posts were £35 each x 2 and £90 to fit the gate so it was a total of £1430 so ask how much your per metre price was it shoud say on it but dont forget the price of all metals etc has gone up and this is a possibility of why, nails etc and all the little sundries just a though
