Hi

I was just wondering if anyone is looking to rehome feral cats at the moment?

I am part of Crawley, Reigate and District cats protection and we have lots of feral and semi feral cats in care with our branch and Horsham banch at the moment.

We home all over the UK, so long as you can get your local branch to come out and do a visit with you first and you dont mind travelling to us to collect.

Anyone interested or wanting more information, pm me for details, we're really full at the moment

Good for you Fizzimist. When I lived in Scotland I had so many visiting cats my neighbours said they had their own website with my address on it.

We have an organisation in France which neuters and chips feral cats there are lots of barns here where they can live happily.

What a fantastic idea.

I already have 2 feral cats living with my horse, otherwise I would. i think any more would upset the ones we already have.

Yes please Rollin

We trap them, bring them in, neuter them and then try to find them homes. There are a few colonies we have cats living, but we cant overstock them obviously but everything is trapped, health checked and neutered regardless of which path it goes down.

We NEVER put a healthy cat down, feral or otherwise, they are with us for as long as they need to be. And I'm proud to be part of an organisation like that, unlike some of the other charities........ahem!

Well done you. CP do a lot of good work unfortunately this past week they have had a bit of bad press in Orkney, and none of the local branch members can say anything in their defence.

Oh dear

I dont know what your local branch has done, but it may be that HQ has told them not to say anything and are dealing with it

Sometimes we get bad press when refusing to home a particular cat somewhere because the home is unsuitable, i.e the road is too busy and the cat has NEVER seen anything but a tractor or a cat that is a lover of the great outdoors and the person wants to keep them as an indoor only cat. We try our best to explain but you cant please everyone all the time

Local branch done nothing wrong that I can see reading from the posts on local forum, but unhappy person went to the local radio/television and press.

If I didnt already have two cats I would be having one or 2 and I fully support the work that the CP do

I had just opened this post as I saw the title and was going to say contact your local CP group. Sorry cant help you but would confirm if CP get bad press then its usually the moaner at fault.
I am editor of Stroud CP newsletter so hi to you!

A large number of people dont appear to realise the good work CP do. Tiggy in my sig is a CP kitten.

I can't take any on atm, but the cat I have came from the CP. He was a very poorly, underweight kitten. Now he's very fat! Lost some weight though since one of the neighbours moved!!!

My YO took four young ferals in five years ago as the yard was over-run with mice. Within weeks the problem was under control. The cats are well and happy and we liveries no longer have droppings in our feeds or holes in our rugs. She had tried poison in the past but it didn't work nearly so well and unfortunately one of the yard dogs was poisoned (survived thankfully) so although I can't home any for you, I would recommend ferals to anyone with a yard rodent problem.

My ferals came from the CP.

Bill had been abandoned in a box outside of the gates. He had obviously been beaten and half scared to death.

The black cat just didnt settle in a home environment and the grey cat (RIP) side died 2 weeks ago was from a cat horder and understandably did not like humans.

Bill sits on my laps and has cuddles and the black cat is happy to be stroked and fussed (on her terms). It is possible for ferals to become friendly given time and patience.

If you can, give several a home. I have not regretted it.

We have had 4 over the years! Current one is 18 and still going strong (well if murdering rats is a measure of it!). We are near a very busy road but has never been a problem with Cats or CP they seem to prefer hunting in the paddocks, maybe just lucky.

Its been in I don't know how many scrapes, had cancer, hyperthyroid and a broken leg.. Seems to be indestructible! What is really funny is it clearly has some sort of dementia and cannot remember where its food is etc but still brings in numerous "gifts" and deposits them in the most lovely places like wellies, haynets etc..
