I always thought fern was poisonous so spent hours getting rid of a bush in one of my paddocks....

Much to my dismay the munchkin found her way near another one the other side of the fencing (call her houndini for now) and chomped her way through it.

No signs of colic or anything else untoward? It is poisonous tho right??

this was a few days ago and she seems fine, spoke to my vet yesterday and they said if she is showing no symptoms to just keep an eye on her, she has had more than a few leaves but not the whole bush........

Just worried as like you linked to it gives rather a horror story, but she appears totally fine?

Yep sorry it is.

"Bracken fern is also toxic because it causes a thiamine deficiency, but it is not nearly as poisonous as yew. Twenty to twenty-five percent of the total diet would have to be bracken fern to be fatal. However, bracken fern is very palatable; if available to the horse they will eat it. "

She should be OK provided your remove or tape of the remaining ferns.
If in doubt a quick call to the vet should put you at ease.

As a precaution you could give her vitamin B1 (thiamine) tablets in her feed for a couple of weeks, to boost her sysytem

Now I sound like a doom and gloom agent just beware of the grass only beacause my girl has acute laminitis never had it before from the new grass.
I thinks a quick call to get some of the vitamin tablets as they are really good at get them back in sync. Blasted horses cause us nothing but worry!!!

I guess thats why we love them so much.
