Fetlock bone spur (also in vet)

I noticed my horse didn't seem quite level in trot on the left rein about 2 weeks ago. He warms up out of it though and is then sound.

I had the vet out today, and he agreed it is a really minor unlevelness, not nodding lame or anything, but we xrayed just to be sure.

He showed up with minor arthritic changes, sidebone and a bone spur on his fetlock. Left fore. He is 10 years old.

He has had hyaluronic acid and is now on metacam. Will hack only in walk for a week and reassess then.

Does anyone have any experience with this? What was the outcome? The prognosis from my vet seems guarded, and is a bit "let's see how it goes". I want to event at 80/90 and show jump, but I get the impression this might not be possible
 
My 5yr old has a bone spur in his coffin joint, he was injected with steroids last year and has had remedial shoeing since! he was fine until July and (had on bout of lameness when we swapped to heart bar shoes in April) but since July he's been really really lame! On Saturday he was fitted with new shoes, a wedge heel, with pads and dental impression stuff! he had his last bute yesterday so I'm waiting to see if he's still lame in a few days! vet back on Friday!

what my vet didn't tell me, or didn't concern me with was that he also has pedal osteitis, which has probably caused the bone spur!

He did also have what they told me was a bone spur in his hock (hock spavin) so he's had his hocks fused in July and they seem much better, but hard to tell now that the font end is lame!

I would think that in your case there is more than can do than they can for my boy! I guess your option will be steroid injections to start with.
 
My horse had this as was diagnosed at 6yrs after intermittent lameness. He was turned away for a year then brought back into work. I never really jumped him fully again though as didn't think it was worth the risk and I was not fully convinced he was 100% anyway - although I did do a few courses from time to time but he never really liked xc anyway. He was initially on bute to bring him back into work and then I gradually moved him over to Devils Claw which worked for a few years. He also had other undefined issues I believe and eventually the ulcers got to him and I had to PTS at 13yrs (he turned very aggressive and the ulcers kept re-appearing) - he did have a quite a bit of work in between such as showing as dressage but it was all very managed carefully.
This was about 8 years ago so I think the advances with injections are maybe a bit more advanced but I guess only time will tell - I personally thought the year off helped the most to let things settle down.
