I have a rescued mini Shetland with occelets on both front fetlocks. It's an old injury from his shady past and he will never be 100% sound, but it certainly doesn't stop him charging around the field enjoying life.
With people wearing copper bracelets etc for arthritis, is there any benefit to something similar for horses? Ideally something that could be worn on both fronts 24/7.

Recommendations welcome. Bare in mind he is only about 9h so small sizes needed!

I googled magnets recently and the general consensus was there's no scientific backing to their use. No idea on copper though.

I second AFB theres very little scientic proof magnets work (i dont think ive seen any). I don't know about the proof that copper "bracelets" work but don't they have to be in direct contact with the skin? So they'd have to be fitted tightly and the hair would stop it being in contact with the skin?

If you are considering something around your mini's legs just make sure theyre safe with things on them one of my boys would be fine but I guarantee the other two would be constsntly messing about trying to get their own or each other's off.

What about trying Devils Claw or Boswellia? One of my wee boys has arthritis and on Devil's Claw you would never know.

I used to have copper pastern strap for my arthritic pony. It was a copper band threaded through a leather strap. Think it was from a Colonel Forbes but it was back in 1969/70 so can't remember clearly. I thought at the time that it helped him, might have been wishful thinking.

There was a horse in training at a yard I work on. He wore something similar. It was mainly copper and maybe less leather looking but same idea. They look it off to work him, other than that he wore it 24/7 and his owner swore by it.

There’s a band that they can wear 24/7, my friend had one for her older horse and she thought it worked. I can’t remember the name of it though, it’s quite expensive.

I really rate magnetic boots in general for older arthritic ones especially in the winter but they can only be worn for so many hours per day.

Yes I have used magnetic boots in the past and thought there was some benefit, but they became hot and itchy underneath if left on for too long. And the horse was on box rest so it was easy to put on and off twice a day. With my mini because he is out I would no doubt forget to remove them after a set time frame. I have also used magnetic back pads on my horse, but didn't find any benefit in those.

Posted a similar thread yestarday, I've bought some bands kmfor my little Shetland.. If they work great.. If they don't, they don't.
I'm not a big believer in these kinds of treatment but I'll give anything a bash for the sake of the little man ?

I can't find your thread, but I'm really interested to hear how you get on. Where did you get the bands?

The thread only had one reply so not worth me linking it but I got the bands here.

Will update with how I get on when they arrive, I'm not expecting miracles but if they could help him fractionally with his arthritis it would be money well spent.
I really wanted the hock boots with the magnets but nowhere has them small enough sadly ?

That's them been on over a week, can't really see a benefit sadly but it's been money well spent to at least try, hopefully it works for others though!

I've tried various magnetic hocks boots on my bone spavin horse over the years and they either slip off, rub him or overheat. Didn't appear to make any difference either. So I've given up!
