That was an interesting discussion, and if it has been pulled, I just want the people who are reporting anything they don't like to know they are p!ssing me off. If something upsets you, FGS say it upsets you and why, then leave the thread to other people whom it might be entertaining, educating, annoying, whatever, stop denying other people reading things.

Nope, not me, I didn't find it upsetting, I said what I thought, as you suggest, and got a right royal bo**ocking for it from Mr Angry of somewhere or another, telling me not to be aggressive, which made me chuckle.
I have only ever reported one post, and I said I was going to, publicly, and I stand by that.
So if someone reported it, perhaps they would like to own up.

yep it's gone, i'm a bit peed off as i removed the 'offensive' word from my own posts. They were stupid people and they were gypsies, hence the title. I mean it's hardly the most offensive thing ever written. FFS is probably more offensive given what it means.

A lot of other people did rant about *insert offensive word for folk who have lots of coloured horses that they ditch in a field and no fixed abode here* though, so maybe that's why. A shame though as the point of the post was not to slag off all gypsy types and travelers. It was just to say how angry i was at these particular ones. Then it all got blown out of proportions and *poof* now it's gone

Anyway the OP has my sympathy, as only a few months back I had a cob stallion after my mare twice!

it's getting a joke on here, any thing that is interesting seem to be deleted as fast as it goes up. however people seem to be allowed to advertise and those post don't get pulled
 
Well said. The button pushers really aggravate me. I can't believe people are so fragile that they can't read a post/opinion they don't like and either challenge it or just walk away from the PC and get on with something else.

I did say if my language offended someone they could press that little button. I meant to UI button though, not the report button!

Agree advertising is always going on and not being pulled.

Then again i suppose i would be in a strop about it so maybe i'm bias!

It was obvious from the second it was posted it was going to get deleted. I'm amazed it lasted as long as it did.
 
How annoying. Now where am I going to annoy people who can't discuss the point in hand, but rather, keep going off on tangents?

It was kind of ironic. I hadn't been in the least aggressive, I had merely held to a point that I considered g***** racist but pik*** was fine, because, IMO, one was about a racial group and tother wasn't.
At which point someone, can't remember who, never take much notice of who, really, ranted on feverishly about my being aggressive and the legal position and no court in the land and I ought to be taken out and flayed (OK I'm making it up now

Anyway, it's gone now. Why do they take whole threads down? In the one I reported, I was not objecting to the entire thread, just the part that said to me 'you are disgusting' - which is personal insult, and should have gone, but they took the whole thing down, and better yet, since on the thread someone had said ' pot ... kettle ... black' and I had said 'oh well, if you can't string a sentence together' they also gave ME a warning for personal insult saying I had called her illiterate

Lol. I know i was a bit defensive towards you in the heat of the moment but i didn't particularly think you were being aggressive for what it's worth. Sounds like i missed the fun bit. Next time i will either post a picture of a kitten doing kung fu to distract people, or will blatantly advertise

ETA: i do have a friend with a lot of gyspy heritage and friends (the traditional sort, not the scummy sort) and he found the whole debate ridiculous. I didn't mention it last night as i thought it sounded childish, but you know what i couldn't resist

I'm not in the least bit surprised it got pulled. I read the first page and thought parts of it were touching on racist, I didn't read any further.

As much as we, the members, might like to think this is our forum, it isn't, it's H&H/IPC's forum, and I'm sure they do not want to be associated with a post that could be percieved by anyone, in any way, to be racist, so of course they will delete it.

Because it's happened countless time before when the whole gypsy/traveller debate kicks off, and people have been frequently warned and had posts deleted when they've used the P word.
 
is there a legal definition of this p word then, cos that one I can't see how it can be considered racist, since it does not er... refer to a race?

Not over-simplifying at all - just checked, and apparently it can refer to That-Group-That-Shall-Not-Be-Mentioned or simply 'vagabond'

Our of interest, if a post said "group of thieving women" would that be sexist? "Group of thieving kids"......ageist?

Only if you were implying that all women/kids were thieves, which many of the posters on the thread were bordering on saying about travellers.

They didn't seem to be able to grasp the fact that Travellers/Romany Gypsies are different races/sectors of society, and also that not every traveller treats their horses badly/thieves/acts like a prat. That is where the issue was. I think.

Is it my fault for saying I had a P*key Cob? Was only playing! I think Skewbald_again and I were the last to post lol......must have taken things to far suggesting that my theiving cob should be arrested lol x
 
Oh and this thing about 'THEY all do this, THEY all do that' is ridiculous. You cannot tar an entire race by a few people's actions... No different (again, in my eyes) to saying that all Irish travellers are thieves than to say all Pakistanis are terrorists or all black kids stab eachother (as discussed in soapbox the other week.) The ignorance of some people on this forum is ridiculous.

I am with you on Gypsy.

But I cannot see the link between the word it appears we must not say, and tthe necessity of being an Irish traveller?
I just hear the term used to refer to low life petty criminals of no fixed abode?

So it seems to me, you have to prove intent, because there's no overt connection. Unlike all your other examples which quite obviously refer to racial characteristics of black, asian, and roma people.

I'm not getting it.

As I said in another thread I had a sound spanking on another forum for using the P word. Totally innocently incidentally.

It was interesting though because the P word down here (Dorset) certainly doesn't refer to Irish Travellers.

It was very obvious that Gypsies were offended by P, but to me a Gypsy and a P is a very different thing. So is a Traveller for that matter. Three very seperate entities.

We did find upon discussing it that the word changed meaning around the country.
