My horse has a tendon injury and is looking at lenghtly box rest and bandaging. He is bedded on shavings and they are sticking to the fibergee and cant be comfortable, I bought some pads from the tackshop but these are leveing wrinkles in his skin when i remove them so I dont think I should use them long term.

What do you use and what can you suggest for me that wont be covered in shavings eery morning!

Thanks

Does he need bandaging for support, or just for warmth/protection?

I use these on my old mare as she gets filled legs. They don't offer much support though. Shavings don't stick to them any more than they do to rugs - easily brushed off.

Have also used these in the past - again, no support, just warmth and wicking. Shavings will stick to the ordinary Thermatex wraps, but won't stick to the cordura outer ones.

Hi, unfortunaltly he needs them for support so they wouldnt be suitable, thanks for the suggestion though.

Iona, they look great, not sure if they will be suitable but i will be asking the vet when frankie goes back to have the stem cells implanted as they would be much easier!

The only thing that you should use for a tendon injury re.bandaging is gamgee! I was told that anyways

Gamgee is great, shavings dont stick and it is re-useable, unless your horse decides to "play" with the bit poking out

As for support, i reccomend using vetwrap type bandage as nothing else compares really, easy to use and stays on as long as you want it to

i've got some really fat padded wraps for under bandages, they're white with just 2 vertical lines each 1/3 way across, i don't like the stripey or 'boxed' ones as i think they'll leave lines on the tendons, i want them absolutely uniform the whole way down. i'm pretty sure shavings wouldn't stick to them. no name on them, no idea where they came from, but if you want me to send them for you to try i'm happy to, not using them at the moment. because they're pretty fat you can bandage pretty firmly over them, better than fybagee imho.
