I want to feed my mare a fibre based feed source to go with a balancer. I literally want it to bulk up her feed a bit. She does not need to gain weight and does not need any extra energy.
Can anyone advise? There are so many to chose from Alfa A, Hifi, Hifi Lite, Cool Fibre, Alfalfa etc etc......
I would like to give a double handul twice per day, but which put on the least weight and offer the least energy?
Thanks

I'm a big fan of Allen & Page Fast Fibre - it's a dry pellet, which you add double volume of water too - makes a nice slop great for mixing in supplements without fear of waste! Very few calories, non-heating or fattening and mine LOVES it! They will happily send you a sample if you contact them!

I am absolutely baffled by what to feed :(
My mare is a good doer and whilst in work has been fine on a balancer having the minimum recomendation. Now she is on box rest I don't know what to do because the balancers say that the minumum amount must be given in order for them to work but if she had that whilst in work (hard, full time, competition work) I'm terrified to give her that much whilst on box rest... once you start with those sort of problems, you're often dealing with them for life.
But then if I just give her a handfull of chaff, she'll get no vits / mins.
I sit at work thinking about bloody horse feed!!!

lo cal!
I'm now thinking stick to that at the minimum amount just with a bit of fast fibre. Or go for Happy Hoof on its own?

yeah a lo cal balancer like baileys or top spec lite. all with the same amount of vits and mins but less calories. Happy hoof is a good idea too, or could feed a chaff and equivite.
