fibrebeet?

I've recently started feeding my horse fibre beet to brighten up his feed - otherwise on Baileys conditioning cubes alone, which he likes but I wanted to add something moist. He's only been getting about a cupful (dry) of the fibre beet - so about 1 litre volume once it has been soaked. Could this make any differnece to his temperament? Has anyone experienced any problems with it?

He is usually quite mellow but has been a bit excitable lately and I'm not sure whether it is the cold or the feed that is the problem

I had a natter with the fibrebeet peeps at their stand at HOYS last year (coz they were giving away free samples!!!!!) and the only thing that stuck in my mind is that it is much higher calorie content than speedibeet. I guess if your ned is sucking up many more calories than normal, he might have some spare energy lol! If it were me, I'd ring the fibrebeet peeps and get some guidance x

[/ QUOTE ] Actually, if you look on the manufacturer's website you will see that Fibrebeet contains 11 MJDE/kg whereas Speedibeet is higher in 'calories' at 12.4 MJDE/kg!

Could be the alfalfa, has he shown a behavioural reaction to alfalfa before? Fibreet is recommended for maintaining weight whereas speedibeet is recommended for gaining weight.

Was he on any sort of beet before? Mine goes loopy on all forms of Sugarbeet including unmolassed versions like Speedibeet and Easibeet.

No - he's not been on alfalfa or sugarbeet before while I've had him. I thought because it was unmollassed it should be OK but now I'm not so sure. I just wanted to keep his weight steady through winter - might go back to baileys cubes on their own.

Both could potentially have an affect on his behaviour.
Mine is absolutely fine with Alfa A and Barley hoops but not any form of sugarbeet.
The horse next door is fine with Speedibeet but not Alfa A though he is OK with Hi lite which does contain alfalfa.

The only way you'll find out is trying one at at time.
