Fiction books about horses

'War Horse' by Michael Morpurgo,
'Black Beauty' by Anna Sewell
Not exactly fiction but 'The Byerley Turk' by Jeremy James

All three have moments of sadness but I found them all a great read, and fell in love with the equine hero's of each book.

Horse Heaven by Jane Smiley, the best adult horsey book ever! She also wrote Barn Blind which is another good one. Have just read Jumping to Conclusions which is set in the West Country point to point scene, think by an author called Sarah Challis, that was ok.

Our Horses in Egypt by Rosalind Belben.

It's about English horses taken to Palestine to fight in the First World War, and being abandoned there. Inspired by Dorothea Brooke of The Brooke. Absolutely brilliant.

Agreed - but don't read it in public - and keep the tissues to hand.
Then read Dorothy Brooke's For Love of Horses, her diaries.

Anything by Dick Francis or Lyndon Stacey
In the Presence of Horses Barbara Dimmick
Dark Horse Tami Hoag
Agapanthus Tango David Francis
I love Charlotte Bingham's To Hear a Nightingale, and The Nightingale Sings.
The Horsey Life by Simon Barnes isn't fiction but a good read.
