Field buddies!

Ok
so Mr Levi current goes out with his lovely field buddy Dexter, but when we move to are summer fields sadly we will be loosing Dexter as a field buddy (he is going to a new loan home off the yard)

A Very good friend of mine has offered her cob (Paddy) to become Levi's new field buddy.. and she is a very good friend and i don't want to offend her but i am very reluctant to put Levi in with him.. he is can be craft... bossy (of horses and humans!) and very handy with the back feet!, Levi is a very playful lad at only 4 year old and can some times annoy Dexter but all Dexter has had to do is put the ears back and Levi will give in and go graze again.. paddy has already prove (with his old field buddy) he is no gentle touch.. his old field buddy tried to play and got a switch kick which course said pony to go lame!!

So guys what would you do if you where me??

Man up and turn Paddy and Levi out together and hope for the best??

so tell your friend no thanks (she is a little bit of a soft touch shall we say so i am worried she might take it to heart) I mean horses are horses!!!

If levi did get kicked i would ask her for money because its just horses and once you let them go at the gate you cant do any thing, but i am just in a little bit of a panic!!

Can you get a companion pony instead or if it's your field offer livery to someone else?

Sadly i am on a livery yard so we go out with other liveries, there is 2 new horses due to arrive in march i am hoping they might help the situation but will not know til they come

Just because Paddy behaves in a certain way with one horse, doesn't mean he will with yours.

I would do gradual introductions - same field, split with leccy fence, hack together etc, just so the can get to know eachother in an un-confrontational way. When you do turn them out together, boot them both up and remove hind shoes (if they are shod).

It sounds like it isn't just Paddy that is the problem - sounds like your horse does need putting in his place and unfortunately, horses being horses, means that this is likely to result in injury - most likely superficial.
