Getting out was the issue at our set up, was a nightmare for everyone as he’d try and push out and kick ours in the process..how we didn’t get injured is a miracle

Hmm well I know of someone who got squished in a field gateway by another livery's horse in similar circumstances and sued the yard owner successfully, maybe worth mentioning it from a legal standpoint? Can the offending horse be caught, tied to the fence out of the way then released again?

Thanks for the comments. I’m replying on my phone so hopefully I won’t get this jumbled up.
Individual horse’s owner is fine, but she’s quite happy to say that her horse must come in first but doesn’t seem to action this herself-almost assumes it’s up to someone else to get him.
If he was at the gate there’s not a chance I’d get mine out without someone being bitten or even kicked, but more likely he’ll barge his way through and cause a right problem. Normally you can shoo others away from the gate and they stay back but this is a big bolshy b*gger.

I’m not sure this would work as if he was within catching distance I would be as well bringing him in anyway.
Don’t think this is an option unfortunately. I wasn’t happy going in to this field, herds changed for Summer and unfortunately yo put a new horse in with my winter herd which then meant that the space was already taken in that field.

In that case it’s the yard owner’s responsibility to sort surely?
Do they not have a duty or care to livery clients to at least try and keep them and their horses safe?
Does the other two horses owners have the same issues? Could you get together and have a serious talk with him/her
Maybe a meeting could be arranged with the owner of the difficult horse, you two and the YO
Do they both know what difficulties he’s causing you?

agree, the YO needs to sort this out or face losing several liveries over it...the maths might hold more weight!

Put your concerns to the YO in writing, spelling out why you are worried and examples of any 'near misses' if you can
That might spur them into taking action as they couldn't claim ignorance of the situation if anyone (human or horse) got hurt

Suspect this is the crux of it, she turns up late and wow look at that her horse is already in, how convenient!

Waffled a lot!
I was this livery owner. Yet another load of stress for £25 a week. It’s just not worth it. You try your best as a yard owner, but can’t control everything when it’s DIY. I posted a thread about it a few years ago. (why is it always the laziest owner, who turns up last, that has the rudest horse!!). I ended up asking the livery to leave and I don’t bother with the hassle of having liveries!anymore (and I was a good yard owner that tried to make the yard lovely, safe and work well for owners, but you just can’t cover every eventuality). The maths did hold weight - I realised that £25 a week just wasn’t worth it. We are absolutely flat broke at the moment and I have four empty stables on my yard, but I wouldn’t risk having liveries.
