hi,
would anyone have any suggestions on what to do with this gateway . i have a massive step down into my field from horses in that field gone by ..
it’s always a bit muddy and i have fences it off , however my horse just stands the other side when resting to talk to neighbours and she’s just make the “patch” even bigger . any help on on what to do to save her ruining it further ?
i am on a livery yard and i’m happy to pay some costs to help preserve it but within reason 413560DD-1FA7-4FCA-B2BF-9F75634EAC37.jpeg

fence off round the gateway and re seed and fertilise the gateway, then in autumn start using that gateway and fence off and repair the summer damaged area.

only way really.

Ive given up having mud/grass around gateways in my wet climate. Hardcore all gateways, a half circle shape.
Being calf deep stuck in mud while opening/closing gates and having horses to deal with - i hated the trickiness of the situation!
I even tried re-seeding with ryegrass ‘gateway’ seed - 6 months later it was a mud pit. Rinse, repeat re-seeding became tedious. Hardcore once, done for years of no hassles.

If its an area the horses loaf around theres no grass in the world that’ll hold up to constant hoof traffic.

I would get some mud control mats, only this brand. Not cheap but you can take them/sell them when you leave the yard. The grass will grow through them too.
