Well, get ready for the very stressful, the good, and the down right dirty stops

Firstly; THE VERY STRESSFUL!!
not a fab start to the day...missed my alarm, so woke up 20minutes later than i should have (not much later, but for a time obsessed freak like me, with a mum whos walk is not much faster than standstill, que almost heart attack with stress!!!). Got to the yard on time..groomed etc loaded up, and got lost on the way to Field House

crazy.gif
ended up on some crazy backroad behind Marchington village that was about th width of a car, very bushy/tree-ey and twisty turny - ended up in Uttoxeter...oops we had gone too far...so had to turn around, ring Field House and eventually find our way there...

arrived at 10:00...luckily i had pre entered so didnt need to jump until 10:30 (weird schedule of the day) BUT i had missed the walking the course, CR*P
mad.gif
frown.gif
so watched a couple go and got the course in my head (luckily im good with that sort of thing!!)

Secondly; THE GOOD!!
Thought i would take Monty in the class first, as he is my fun 'kick and sit' horse
smirk.gif
at the fine age of 19.
grin.gif
so warmed him up, got some snobby looks of a couple of people on posh horses with their heads in and bouncey bouncy jumps...while me and monty canter round willy nilly with his nose in the air
laugh.gif
bless him. went in and did a lovely round, just an unlucky 4 faults on a triplebar coming off a corner, didnt quite have a forward enough canter so got a bit deep...but lots of pats for the horse
smile.gif
love him, i don't want him to get old
frown.gif

Lastly; THE DOWN RIGHT DIRTY STOPS!!
mad.gif

Well...totally didnt realise there were so few pre entered...so had only 8 riders between me finishing my round on monty to my round on bugsy!!
shocked.gif
argh...stress again!!
shocked.gif
crazy.gif
so quick tack up, trotted to warm up and warmed him up, he was going lovely, nice and forward, jumping all the fences fabulously.

(after my lesson on wednesday with Michael Potter, i was thinking FORWARDS all the time and getting lovely results in the warm up) So i went into the arena feeling rather positive and repeating the words ''forwards'' in my head to make me push on and get a good canter to start with (which was what we were working on in our lesson)...picked up a good strong canter, popped the first lovely, and the second (and i was thinking yessss
laugh.gif
, as we have had some stopping issues and usually once he is over 2 he is fab)...came around the number 3, a one stride double away from the entrance...lovely forward canter, perfect stride...and STOP...little w*nker puts a stop in
mad.gif
que *WHACK* and come round again...forward canter, perfect stride...he was having none of it, he puts on the breaks, goes up in the air and rears a few times
frown.gif
mad.gif
the elimination bell goes...now i was a bit angry
mad.gif
*WHACK* and came around to a nice simple verticel near the exit, just to pop it before we exit...STOP
mad.gif
rears a few more times, i manage to get him moving forwards and attempt it again...STOP, REAR
frown.gif
mad.gif
i couldnt keep hogging the arena so i left, rather angry and returned angrily to the warm up
mad.gif
wanted to jump one or two fences to make him jump something...popped a verticle lovely (typical!) and then came to an oxer, perfect stride (if a teeny bit long, but fine for a take off point) lovely canter, STOP..a go flying out the front door, into the pole/wings of the fence, the wings smacks down on me and i see bugsy trotting happily away...b*gger...
mad.gif

now i know i should of got back on...but tbh i had lost my temper and thought better of it really...

But omg i was SO annoyed
frown.gif
it ruined my whole day and i just feel rotten...we had such a nice lesson on wednesday and my confidence on him had finally come back after his stopping phase when i first got him in May...but this has just ruined everything i have worked towards this past few months
frown.gif
i just feel like giving up
frown.gif
usually i am ready to accept rider error for his stops, say wrong striding or bad canter, or dropping my hands...but today (sorry but my head may grow
wink.gif
) my riding was spot on, and i was SO irritated that his stops were simply dirty stops, not ''sorry mum wrong stride'', just ''no way thankyou, i cant be bothered''
mad.gif
so upset with how he went
frown.gif

a hell of a lot of wine if you get this far (sorry it was rather long)...but it was a rotten day, hateed bugsy today, really do hate him today
frown.gif
mad.gif
and i have a bruise on my back
frown.gif

i'll be opening the wine in a bit...drown my sorrows away
wink.gif
thanks for reading...lets hope my lesson with Michael this wednesday can restore my confidence a bit

Well done with Monty
laugh.gif
Looks like Bugsy has something to live up to!!
wink.gif

thanks
smile.gif
haha, he certainly does...monty is one of those ''totally honest, jump off any stride, do anything for his mum'' schoolmasters
smile.gif
love him to pieces...was going to retire him from sj at the end of this year...but might not
wink.gif
he's going so well at the moment...might do a 6month membership
laugh.gif
xx

Hard luck, I can totally sympathise with dirty stops and it is so frustrating. I will admit I have lost my temper when it happens, then the scenerio plays on and on in my head. I made a break through other week (I hope).

Chin up, it will improve and will get there even if it takes a while.

hi.............i watched you go round and yes very unlucky with Monty, but Bugsy was very naughty - your 1st approach was spot on, second time you could see the white of his eye fixed on the entrance, he had already decided he wasn't going to jump!! saying that still no excuse on refusing the fence prior to your departure as it was going towards the entrance.
sorry you had a crap day on Bugsy........Monty is fab, as you say he is just kick and go and so chilled!!!!

Well done with MOnty, he sounds very fun
smile.gif
smile.gif

SOrry you had a bad day on Bugsy
frown.gif
frown.gif
Keep going though, it's always 3 steps forwards and then 2 back again with horses (well it is with me anyway
tongue.gif
), i'm sure it will come together again for you.

Gah! I'm so sorry for you. Its horrible when they start putting in dirty stops isn't it because it just eats away at your confidence.

At least you have the lovely Monty to enjoy whilst you work things out with Bugsy

Well done with Monty, he sounds a star! Bugger the Bugsy... has he been checked out physically? OR is he just a bit of a mick taker?!!

his teeth/back etc were all checked recently...all fine, he is just a mick taker tbh

Oh what a shame. I've had mine for over 4 years and I think 2 of those years were spent with mostly eliminations. I'm sure you will get there with him. At least we sorted out the schedule and got it right.

wink.gif
haha. thanks, im sure he will, maybe it was just a bad day...i really hope we havent just gone 10 steps backwards after all our progress

Oh poo, how infuriating but Monty sounds like such fun. Hope you're not too sore and a glass or three of wine sounds like a great plan
grin.gif

What a nightmare for you (at least Monty was a good boy)
It would be terrible if you gave up on Bugsy and I imagine you feel pretty crap at the mo but chin up and think positive and try and see a way through it...

I know you have said that you have had his teeth & back checked but maybe it could be more than this...especially as you said that you felt everything was going well as far as being forward and on the correct stride etc. Maybe it would be worth taking him to your vets for an 'mot', they can then watch him trot up and do flexion tests etc. and even watch you ride/jump if necessary (I did this at Oakham with much success). I do not want to worry you unecessarily, but if there is something wrong you can get it treated ASAP and then be back on form sooner than you know it and if there is nothing wrong (more than likely) then you can get after him, maybe get Michael to watch you at a show and crack on straight away.
I am sure he is just being cocky but if you know then you can deal with him - good luck and don't give up - remember why we have horses!!!
grin.gif

It does sound like he was napping as it was near the doors. I go to Marchington and I know that they have a Tuesday afternoon when you can go and have a play over the jumps. Maybe it would be an idea to take Bugsy for a play?
I hope you get it sorted, we`ve all been there with regular refusals and coming off and it doesnt take a lot to lose your confidence once you`ve had to re-gain it once or twice.
Its good that you have Monty to keep your confidence up.
